Reupping a boost from last week:

“Having All of Your Internal Resources Exhausted Beyond Measure and Being Left with No Clean-Up Crew”: Defining Autistic Burnout

First academic/clinical article I've ever seen specifically on autistic burnout, and it rings true. It's particularly validating to see initial confirmation that autistic burnout is its own distinct phenomena, which likely requires its own specific interventions.

The iconic ending scene from the first Planet of the Apes (1968) movie of the main character realizing he's been on earth all along was actually made up by the film!

The horrendous 2001 adaptation that ends with Mark Wahlberg landing his space ship in ape Washington D.C. and seeing ape Abraham Lincoln was closer to the original ending to the 1963 book.

I just found out and needed to share this cursed knowledge with you.

@ErikUden how could you not go with Ape-raham Lincoln?!

I'm confused as to why yesterday MSNBC had Crowdstrike & think tank guy Dmitri Alperovich (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Alperovitch) on as a Chinese strategy expert wrt Taiwan reunification. There are hundreds of top retired DOD or State Dept personnel more qualified to discuss this topic. How did he end up in MSNBC's rotation of talking heads? Well, apparently he recently wrote a book it even though it doesn't seem to have been a top focus of his career. Wonder what I should write a book on?

neurovagrant,
@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org avatar

@Nonya_Bidniss fwiw his book was pretty good (and there were some pertinent tie-ins with his career) but I’d read books by you even faster. Get writin’ please! 😉

Ah, I remember 32. Terrible year, but at least I didn't need upstairs ibuprofen and downstairs ibuprofen. That came a few years later.

"If I've got an an investigator who's going to knock down somebody's door because a tool told them this is the person you're talking to, I can't give them a tool that's hallucinating." @bapril - CTO of @Maltego - about AI, being interviewed by @NotTheLinux on @BreakingBadness.

I had the privilege of working under Ben for years and his interview reinforces why he's one of my very favorite, most trusted technologists.

Also a really good interview with Allan Liska of Recorded Future, where he dishes some good insights on Lockbit.

And for folks on the job hunt, Ben also provides some great advice on jobhunting in the security space.

But just to hear him lay out that cautious approach to AI was heartening.

Update: fixed it.

Trying to transfer a @signalapp account to an iPhone (from Android) and Signal on the iPhone appears to be locked in a captcha loop.

Anyone ever dealt with this/know how to fix it?

-current iOS
-exempted app from Lockdown mode
-killed and restarted app
-turned phone off and back on again
-deleted and reinstalled app
-not on vpn or icloud relay

neurovagrant,
@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org avatar

i promise i'm not a robot

neurovagrant,
@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org avatar

Okay, did 2 things and one of them fixed it:

  1. Deleted app, rebooted phone and then reinstalled app. (iOS can hold weird temp file/state stuff even after app deletion that clears out on reboot)

  2. Pulled myself off wifi and used my cell connection.

y'all, this @dangoodin story is a banger.

"A root-server at the Internet’s core lost touch with its peers. We still don’t know why."

One of the smartest engineers I work with put it thusly: "It's always DNS, but occasionally it's the DNS."

When it's the DNS, we're in trouble...

(also, go follow Dan while you're at it, he's a fantastic mastodon user)

neurovagrant,
@neurovagrant@masto.deoan.org avatar

@ai6yr I was a 911 dispatcher for a decade in a rural suburb. What we'd get is people moving there specifically to get away from the city and into the woods, but they'd call 911 expecting us to trap or kill every bear they see toddering through their yard.

My go-to line was "if it's battering down your door we're happy to intervene, otherwise, steer clear of it and have a good night."
