@liaizon This probably is the first official DB presence in the Fediverse, yes.

We cannot say for sure whether other parts of DB will join the Fediverse as this is decided by the respective colleagues. We hope that we can set a good example with the DB Systel Tech account and collect some experiences.

Iโ€™m setting up a laptop for a non-techie relative, who lives in another city. I couldnโ€™t find a remote admin solution that would work under Debian, at least not one that seemed reliable and trustworthy.

Hereโ€™s what I ended up doing:

I created a user for the relative on my #Nextcloud instance, and opened a chat session with them titled โ€œTech assistanceโ€.

The chat session has a URL, which I bookmarked in the Firefox bookmark bar.

@slothrop Did you consider RustDesk? It's really similar to Teamviewer, and you can provide relay servers you trust. For instance, this is the server of a German initiative that provides a lot of cool free software services: https://deskforge.de

A new @fdroidorg board of directors has been appointed, steering the governance of this great community which is so crucial for user freedoms!

My term as part of the founding board has ended, as planned, to make room for new blood. The FTC should go after health care providers, on fraudulent advertising grounds, whose websites say they offer urgent care but donโ€™t. Itโ€™s maddeningly frustrating to need medical care, look at google results, and then do dial after dial just to hear that โ€œoh, yeah, weโ€™ll get back to you Mondayโ€.

Version 1.20 of @fdroidorg brings some pretty big changes of how repositories are handled:

โ€ข official repo is always preferred
โ€ข the repo an app comes from is prominently shown
โ€ข if an app is available from more than one repo, you can choose where to get it from
โ€ข power users can change global repo priorities

    @slothrop I also heard "truck number" a few times, which probably doesn't solve your problem. Recently I stumbled over "key person risks" which is somewhat similar but not as clear. In general "single point of failure" could also describe it.

    Probiert mal das HeliBoard [1] (Android-Tastatur). Ist gerade in einer Alpha-Version erschienen. Durch das Nachladen einer externen Bibliothek [2] kann man eine Swipe-Funktion freischalten. Klappt super! Wird meine neue standard Tastatur.

    Great start into the day! The #Railways and #OpenTransport devroom was already full before the programme started. We kick off the devroom with a talk about the open standards and open data in the transportation sector.

    The upcoming talks will have a closer look at passenger simulation and long- and short-term planning before we go into the daily operations from different perspectives, especially the community.

    I finally got my proof-of-concept (and world wide first open source) SM-DP+ for consumer eSIM to work. This is the component from which the eUICC (chip in phone) downloads encrypted eSIM profiles. Code at https://gerrit.osmocom.org/c/pysim/+/35461 - will be merged to pysim master soon. #GSMA #3gpp

    @jon Do you know the background of 2004? E.g. the RE 2 Schwarzwaldexpress recently had multiple times a 2004 date shown (IIRC also February), but with the correct time. I wondered whether the battery helping to keep the date/time when the engine power is off was empty or so.
