    Gestern in den Tagesthemen kam der Bericht über eine 8. Klasse, die als Schulfahrt bei den Landesforsten RLP eine Woche im Wald arbeiten.

    „Ich glaube, den Wald fit zu machen hilft mehr als mich auf die Straße kleben!“, sagte eine Schülerin.
    Konstruktiver Aktivismus, i love.

    Seit 15 Jahren pflege ich ja auch das Konzept des konstruktiven Aktivismus. Er ist anstrengender, fordernder, weniger effekthaschend, dafür erfüllender und er bewirkt Schritt für Schritt. 1/2

    Nett. Aber ich würde widersprechen, dass es mehr hilft. Denn alles was ein Mensch in einem Leben so erreicht, machen Konzerne innerhalb von Sekunden zunichte.
    Ich will nicht sagen, dass der Aktivismus nichts bringt, nur dass wir sehr viel mehr brauchen als das.

    Heads-up to chaos.social users: This week, Meta (Facebook/Instagram) are releasing their new app, Threads, which reportedly will be Fediverse-compatible.

    There are a lot calls to block (or not block) them. We are both too busy this week to make a truly considered decision – sorry for that. Please give us a couple of days: We will sit down and make a call during or just after the weekend.

    We'll post here once we've made a decision.

    @fleg @ordnung I'd say a decision is necessary before the thing comes out (not doing something is also a decision). The decision can later be corrected, depending on metas behaviour. Currently I'd consider the limited information we have to make a decision which is

    • Meta's past record in slavery, election manipulation etc..
    • Metas general moderation
    • Meta's apparent attempts to speak (only) with growth-focused Fediverse instances, possibly under NDA
    • Meta intransparency of the process

    @rmasoni This is not a product (that you can buy) it is a software you are allowed to use because someone else made an effort to develop it. You are not entitled to support unless you pay for it. Interactions like this would discourage me as a maintainer and I think you could do much better.

    • User domain blocks

    • Trusted reports, a feature that allows users to designate specific moderation abilities to trusted friends on their comments

    • Shared ModLists, a feature that allows you to create + curate block/mute lists of accounts, and share them with specific friends. If the list creator grants edit permissions, any friend can add a block/muted account and all friends will block/mute that account

    In order for #decentralization to work, the server install process for services is going to HAVE to improve. If I'm interested in running a federated instance of a service, and the first thing I see is a 35-step tutorial about how to configure nginx or arcane PHP requirements, I'm going to bail.

    I think about Nextcloud, and how I installed a snap for it, and it's updated through 8 major upgrades of the service without me ever doing anything to admin it. That's where we need to get to.

    @tilvids while it certainly does not cover all use cases and is more technical than Yunohost this ansible playbook https://github.com/mother-of-all-self-hosting/mash-playbook can maybe help a lot of people. It can install (and later upgrade) services with a few (well documented) lines of configuration and one command. Currently supported are #Funkwhale, #GoToSocial, #Mobilizon and #Peertube

    While it certainly does not fit all, I think it can help a ton

    How do you #Mastodon?

    Since the official Android app is lacking so many features, I used #Tusky for quite some time. Recently I switched to #Megalodon because it feels smoother (I miss the clear notifications option though).

    The web client was fine so far, but now I am playing around with #Elk, wich looks very promising. It handles threads much better. But it does look like Twitter.

    What are you using?

    (And are you also struggling with hashtags being autoformated?)

    Ich habe vor einem Monat mit @fragdenstaat das Justizministerium nach den wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen und internen Beratungen bzgl. gefragt. Der Antrag wurde abgelehnt und die Begründungen sind ... wild

    Grund 1: Für den aktuellen Entwurf wurden keine wisenschaftlichen Grundlagen eingeholt - was zu Hölle? Lang über Frauensaunen diskutieren, ohne jede Grundlage? 🔁 (1/2)

    @jr @bodomenke Voll, ist halt immer ne Abwägung. PGP ist halt das einzige was easy auf @tails läuft. Gäbe es einen Matrix Client wäre das sicher was anderes für viele.

    Für mich am meisten Sinn ergibt es aber mit Account und eigener Library in der meine provate Musik-Sammlung ist. Ich nutze das als selbstgehosteten Spotify-Ersatz. Suche gibt es
