Product idea for UK primary school parents: A re-usable dressing-up costume for special school dress-up days. Hear me out…
Take a toga-style dress and sew on a bunch of Velcro patches.
Then sell kits of stick-on adornments. Fur (for cavemen day), a sash and gold bits (for Romans Day), red dots (for Comic Relief), coloured dots (for Children in Need) and various attachments for world book day!
Etsy Merchant Feeds is a self-hosted tool that allows you to create XML feeds for use in Meta (Facebook/Instagram), Google Shopping, and probably many others, so you can better advertise your online store, if you have one.
But like so many parents & work from home spouses.... I'm apparently irreplaceable & I have MORE work & responsibilities today than on an average day. 😭
Oh the luxury to be able to "call in sick" and go back to bed. What does that even feel like??
@syntaxseed the worst part of being a parent: there is just no time off. No sick leave, no annual leave, and most especially no paternity/maternity leave 😁
And when I complain to my parents about it, they tell me that you don’t even get to retire…
So this was today, and turns out it was great fun.
I ended up speaking for about 20 mins, with a good 20 minutes of Q&A after.
The kids seemed to enjoy it (as did I), and asked lots of intelligent questions (and some silly ones, as you'd expect from 10-12 year olds 😁).
The teachers gave me a lot of very good feedback, too, and asked if they could invite me again next time.
The one thing that really impressed me though, was the behaviour of the kids! They were absolutely amazingly well behaved. I don't think we ever had such discipline when I was in school.
I am thinking of breaking #Postgres and #ElasticSearch to a separate server instead of increasing my current VPS resources.
I'll have two servers. My main, which will run Mastodon, and another that will have Postgres and ElasticSearch on it.
Will I benefit by doing this or should I just move ElasticSearch to its own server? What is the minimum CPU/ram I can get for the second server & what should I get?
@paul i run my mastodon instance on two of Hetzner’s CAX 11 servers (ARM 64, 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM) and they work very smoothly. One runs mastodon (incl Postgres) the other elasticsearch)
I’m not sure it makes sense to break out Postgres and elasticsearch onto the same server: both of these need quite a lot of resources, and I’d therefore like them on different servers. The one running mastodon would otherwise probably be quite idle (relatively speaking).
I split mine out primarily because I felt this gave me more resilience: any potential issues with elasticsearch (it hogging resources, needing scaling etc) wouldn’t affect my main mastodon experience.
Any recommendations for moving away from #gmail? Preferably somewhere that isn’t gonna implement #AI for #email? Can’t use my ISP’s email cos we want to change away as soon as OpenReach do their thing
