There was a local marathon in the Netherlands a couple weeks ago on a hot day. Starting time 10-11am for most of it, and 2:30pm for the shorter distances. After a lot of participants started getting heat-related illness, the organizers had the brilliant idea to push the later start-time back to 3:30pm. They ended up canceling all of it.
And we still have the 4 day marathon in mid-July with untrained masses of all ages, which everyone refuses to reschedule "because tradition".
Hmm, at least half of the engineering school alumni magazine for the school I went to is a fawning article on the "lifetime contributions to the world" of the wealthy individual who bought naming rights to the engineering school 20 years ago. Seems a little much... 🤔
It's a pity that wealthy individual hasn't been sufficiently taxed to allow the same funding to be allocated where it's needed, sans the effusive ass-kissing 😑
Safety note: do not accidentally stab yourself with a steak knife reaching for something else in the dish rack, LOL. It's painful, even if you don't break the skin. If it looks like I was in a knife fight, it was just with myself 😂 #Random
Crow intelligence in action: the crows here will eat animals that have been visibly wounded/hit by cars/etc., but will NOT eat animals which do not have visible marks (ie potentially rat poisoned). #smart#birds#crows
Their jackdaw European cousins in our garden have been successfully trained to wait for the smaller birds to "feed" them.
We got a dangling food cage they're too big to enter, and they quickly gave up on breaking into it. Eventually they realized that if they leave it alone, they can just sit on the ground under it and wait for the other birds to enter and drop food down to them 😆
Put the entire household on the pihole, hope I don't get too many complaints, LOL (maybe overkill for the entire household, but... worth the experiment) #pihole#cybersecurity
"Had it been detected sooner, the outbreak might have been swiftly contained."
Lol. Detection did not lead to containment, at any date. Farms are still blocking testing of cows and employees if they feel like it, and most states aren't restricting the movement of potentially infected cows.
Amused to see our local Indian restaurant sells pan fried Chinese noodles. (India is Asia, but Indian food is not Chinese food, nor vice versa). #fusion
In the Netherlands, restaurants mix Chinese and Japanese a lot, and mix every Asian restaurant with Indonesian, especially with rice and noodle side dishes.
From the CNN article:
"“Should they receive a prison sentence, we will need to consider additional actions to safeguard American citizens,” Mullin said."
Like telling them not to haul around ammo when traveling internationally? Or prevent Americans from traveling there at all, to cut off tourism revenue until they agree to allow American guns and ammo?
Looks like it's a pre-existing Kettle Corn business bought ~31 weeks ago by a recently retired cop and his wife. Can't find the registration so they probably changed the name to that when buying it.
He's very fond of hunting, fishing, camo, making knives, Punisher artwork, American flags, and red-white-and-blue color schemes.
When the worker's comp case against the city wraps up and the kettle corn business gets boring, I expect they'll go live off-grid in Alaska to pwn the libs.
It's the middle of May in the Netherlands, and we've had a week of hot and sticky summer weather already, with another to come 😬
When we got a portable AC in 2018(?), it was for the one-off summer heat waves that were bad enough give me (and my chronic illness) heat exhaustion after a couple days, despite our good insulation.
Then it was a few times per year. And then it was several 2-3 day stretches per month in July and August. And now it's starting in frigging MAY.
Some bozo ran over nearly every cone on the eastbound side of the demonstration bicycle lane here in Thousand Oaks. Must have been more than two dozen cones down. Drunk driver? Someone who doesn't like bicycle lanes? Or someone who has a grudge against cones? (ps. this is why separated, not coned off, lanes are better) #ThousandOaks#cycling
Justice #Alito says his wife Martha-Ann Alito had an altercation with neighbors about a "'Fuck Trump' sign that was within 50 feet of where children await the school bus in Jan 21."
Except... FCPS and ACPS were all remote in January of 2021. No children were waiting for buses
It's always been a blatant lie. You don't use your home to signify the collapse of your country just because you're a little pissy about your neighbor's signage.
So yes, Alito is both opposed to American democracy and willing to lie to everyone. He's massively dishonest and is contemptuous enough of the public to think we're stupid enough to believe him.
Worth emphasizing this, because most news outlets did not:
“Rep. Matt #Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Thursday ominously invoked Donald #Trump’s call to far-right violent extremists while joining the former president at his criminal trial in New York.
“Standing back and standing by, Mr. President,” Gaetz wrote on social media, along with a photo of himself positioned behind Trump at his trial.”
