Rumors have it that iOS 18 will be a complete redesign. I'm looking forward to that. But the rumors say that they're going to circle-style icons for the home screen. Not great if you still can't put them wherever you want on the screen. Can you imagine all the wasted space?

I need a new phone since my current one died. I was thinking of getting a second-hand/refurbished Android phone that supports #Linux

I only have 2 major requeriments:

  • Calls.
  • Whatsapp & Signal.

Is this even possible? If so, which device/s should I look for?

@SrEstegosaurio the OnePlus 6 (or 6T) seems to have the best hardware support (i daily drive it).

I'm not sure about whatsapp, but for signal you can use flare: https://flathub.org/apps/de.schmidhuberj.Flare

I'd recommend installing postmarketOS edge with Phosh: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_6_(oneplus-enchilada)#Installing#Installing)

Also, it is worth noting that the camera doesn't work, and that MMS requires manual setup in Chatty's settings.

Day 2 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:

At the moment, I'm still carrying an Android phone which provides a wifi hotspot.

The most important things have been established: Fediverse access (via Tuba) and messaging (via Fractal). After initial problems with the repo-version of Fractal, the Flatpak version works very well. I've already been messaging my wife, family and friends from Linux.

I also successfully purchased and downloaded a public transport ticket for February.

The battery life has been very very good. I think the automatic suspend is working it's magic. However, I'm not sure if this affects notifications yet.

@fell Suspend stops most notifications (except SMS/MMS/Calls), though on my OnePlus 6 I get a decent day's worth of battery without suspend enabled, but YMMV

I don't like because i feel that it is wrong and dangerous for the developer community to give one entity so much control over us. But I go on there all the time and I have never seen the toxicity that people are always ranting about.

Is it toxic to make corrections or help a person ask the right question so as to release accidental self imposed restrictions?

Does anyone have an example of something that people do there that is toxic?

So I've been working with GTK4/Libadwaita in Python (in Flatpak), and I'm trying to get notifications to work.

I keep getting this error: "gi.repository.GLib.GError: g-io-error-quark: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.Notifications: Timeout was reached (24)"

Am I missing Flatpak overrides? (Docs seem to say no https://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/portals.html )

Am I doing this wrong? (Code at https://github.com/TheKrafter/Groupings/blob/rewrite/src/groupings/internal/push.py#L31 )
