Do you need help finding a grassroot #nonprofit to support?

@ProPublica has Nonprofit Explorer. Look up an org's 990. It has info on mission & financials. Expenses are listed on Part IX, page 10.

"Browse millions of annual returns filed by tax-exempt organizations... See details like executive compensation, revenue, expenses and more. Search for an organization or a person, or search the full text of filings."

Trying an Amish method of sunflower seed saving. Once florets start to fall off & head droops, the seeds are viable. The goal is to dry out of the reach of birds, bugs, and more. Cut, remove leaves, brush off florets, hang upside down with twine. Hang in home, shed, barn, or other protected structure. Once the heads are fully dry, I’ll shake seeds out & move them to envelopes for long term cool, dry storage. #Seeds #Gardening

Photo of one sunflower head with the florets brushed off. Many white shiny seeds remain in face.
Two sunflower heads with florets cleaned off. Ready to hang upside down. One face has lost some seeds to birds.

Ever wonder who the lobbyists are?

Now you can find out.

Thanks to F-, you can search & download their database. Search by name, state, or sector. DOZENS of sectors--for profit, nonprofit, government, etc. Gives the lobbyist's name or company name & who they've worked for.

Some simple prep before rains.

First, fork the soil to ease compaction. Disturb soil as little as possible. Easy to do through light mulch. And I love using this garden fork my Mom passed to me.

Second, check hose leading into small swale is clear of debris. I repurposed an old colander and local rocks to help limit erosion. #gardening #farming

I just saw a webinar ad for #nonprofit grant writing. One topic is using #AI for customizing applications. You, not AI, know your community best. AI won’t help you in conversations with funders, donors, and partners. Be sincere. Be bold. Be clear. If you’re not sure how to do this, then start with using stronger verbs and more periods.

Now is the time to plant and prep for fire resistance. While this article focuses on #CA, you can apply its principles globally. You’d swap out species for #NativePlants for the ecosystems in your area. #Wildfires #Gardening #Landscaping #Climate

Did you know bees blow bubbles? If you get a photo, the project below is seeking observations.

From Bees Concentrating Nectar by Dr. John Asher and Zach Portman. "This is a project that compiles observations of bees concentrating nectar with their mouthparts (also known as "bubbling"). Limited to pictures where a nectar bubble is clearly visible."

Don't give up on wild native bees in the city...

This is a solitary bee just starting its life. It visits these last Phacelia blooms over & over. Eventually, the bee will move over to other flower varieties that are coming on strong.

Diversity in plants & habitats makes the difference on this small scale. Native bees forage over hundreds of yards-not miles like honey bees.
