#Assange leave for appeal partially granted.

Extradition decision will be appealed, but only on a few, selected grounds (# 4, 5) ie. discrimination he would face by not being a US citizen, and therefore not benefiting from the protection offered by the first amendment.

"The lawyers have until 2 pm on 24th May to file an agreed case outline.".

Beyond the boring and torturous UK judicial process, this decision acknowledges #FreeAssange case IS about freedom of speech.

Today's hearing is about requesting a permission (!) to appeal (!) his extradition to the US (!) where he faces certain death in prison for his work as a journalist and publisher.

Then, he was appealing against his first extradition request (!) to Sweden...

⛓️ During 7+ years confined in this minuscule apartment, without a balcony, without seeing a tree or getting outside once, his lawyers asked repeatedly to the Swedish prosecutor to either 1/ come to the embassy to conduct interrogation 2/ use a video link as frequently done by Sweden at that time. No answer. This period in the embassy was considered by UN Rapporteur on arbitrary detention as.. detention. And felt like prison. J's health without access to doctors/hospitals degraded.

A friend of mine (who is also rights on the shortcomings of the #ActivityPub protocol) gently mocks the #Fediverse, because to him it sounds like "fed" like "the feds" (the federal police, the FBI, in the US).

To which I fiercely mocked back: "fed" only sounds that bad maybe for people coming from the US, so I don't really mind, maybe we achieve a network that is less US-centric this way..?

Today I realized: #Bluesky actually sounds like...BS! ("bullshit" in common English everywhere!)

Sure I am not making a generality: There are some amazing past and present movies coming from the #USA...

..but:

🇺🇸 A majority of movies I watched before i was 20 were from the US. This formed my entire relationship to Cinema in terms of formats, expectations, emotions, and culture. So I am now trying to bring this ratio down for the rest of my life.

Problems we are having with #Signal:

• It is and will remain centralized (clear strategy of not federating servers)
• It requires strong identifiers/selectors (phone#) to use
• Author disallows distribution by anyone but Google, although free/libre
• It keeps pushing away verification of fingerprint in interface
• It relies on Google+Amazon infrastructure
• Its funding is shady (OTF = Radio Free Asia = USG)

= clearly unethical choices, unjustifiable by accessibility or technological reasons.
