If you are a white leftist and you talk “both parties are the same they are both capitalist” you will loose most of your black audience. I think it ought to be obvious that this isn’t because blackfolks love Democrats (in most cases, there is always someone being simple in any group) —no. it’s because the difference between the parties is material and obvious and these are unstable times.

When I hear such talk I wonder if the speaker is working on voter suppression.

WIth Reddit self-destructing, many have been wondering about alternatives on the Fediverse.

I do NOT recommend Lemmy. I have serious long-standing deep concerns about the developers, see here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

As far as I know, nothing has changed since then and Lemmy's issues remain.

Legal and lawyer types: why do legal documents put numbers in parentheses after the words? eg “you may submit two (2) letters…”

I understand the general idea of clarity and precision, but is there a historical reason for this? words for numbers are even harder to rubout and manipulate… “seven” is nothing like “four” what started this? or is it even a real thing?

@futurebird My legal writing professor actually told us not to do this (graduated in 2020), but people out here in the world seem to do it regularly, so it may be a vestigial thing that's in the process of going away. I hate it, personally.

    @wesley @liza I hope they can be interoperable too at some point. Unfortunately, my gut feeling is that BSky is going to end up another cesspool because they’re actually pretty explicit about being hands-off about moderation. The only reason it’s been as stringent as it has so far is that people can bully the mods into doing it. That won’t happen anymore with exponential growth.

    So Bluesky has its first outright Nazi member and not a real strategy on how to handle that. You can’t block users, only mute them so it leaves the community in danger that you can’t outright stop that user from seeing you.

    This is where these systems fail, when they are so scared of censorship they put users in danger.

    @danarel Is it that Cybernetic North guy? I reported the account and they appear to have flagged it, but that's it. Much prefer the good old Mastodon way of blocking them and then getting their whole instance defederated (unironically).
