how would you even build a safe interlocked booth for long-term operation of those ridiculous fiber lasers, like the ones backyardscientist and styropyro have played with?

in scanning mode it's not so bad, but after a few months the stray beams are still gonna start cutting through stuff. and as static beam it'll melt pretty much anything.

fire brick? nope, it melts it. glass wool? melts it. steel? melts it. tungsten? melts it. sand? turns it to glass, and melts it.
