Until humanity has made it possible to fry a good egg using just an air fryer or an oven, there will never be a single piece of (good) fried egg on this green Earth that has been made by me.

context: all innocent eggs that have ever been fried by me on a pan have gone to hell, harder than the shell they were in :blobfoxangrylaugh:

I’m getting triggered seeing Shopping Mall tier lists people are making on Twitter. One, because I just don’t agree w their ranking but I care less abt that cos I mean who cares abt malls but, two, and the most triggering bit - why have they gone to so many malls in the first place and not only remembered the fact but also must have gone to them often enough or at least had thoughts of them enough to be able to rate and include them in their tier list??? One of them literally said they’ve went to 175 malls, in Klang Valley or something ridiculous like that - what…?

I’ve always seen shopping malls as places you go (swear allegiance) to those local to you now or at some point in your life i.e. I lived and grew up going to 1U/Curve/IPC/Ikea so I prolly will only frequent any of those for as long as I’m near them. I obviously have went to other malls but no way I’d even rank or consider going back to them unless I have the need to 😭 I’m just gonna assume these people have too much money to spend.

irfan, to fediverse

The argument for the #Fediverse is that the services/software stack and even protocol are not just self-hosted but also #FOSS. #Bluesky isn't FOSS as far as I know, maybe the federation protocol is but I'm not sure if that's even the case. Jack Dorsey's morals/politics aside, I don't see the point of having a BS account - might as well stay on #Twitter, if you already have an existing account. The only meaningful difference I can see between the two is that one is an old toy, and another is the "new" toy - and new in software doesn't always mean better.

Important issue, and an interesting discussion has taken place since last year on the side of things. I imagine this issue is also present for and most other services, and I wonder if a fix is already in the works or even rolled out for them?

HAHAHAHA I HAD AN IDIOTIC MOMENT FOR A HOT SEC

people recommended catfish as the go-to fish to breed at home, and was told that there are Indonesian vids on how to do so.

I looked up "bela ikan keli" (breeding catfishes) on YouTube, and found a vid from a Malaysian. I was just so focused on what they (video poster) had to say, and was making mental images of their catfishes everytime they mentioned the catfishes (without showing them).

The moment of truth, they showed how their catfishes looked like AND I WAS SHOCKED BY HOW GRAY, WET, SLIMY THE CATFISHES LOOKED because the WHOLE TIME, I was picturing catfishes as fishes that are dry with a hard head, not slimy, not gray or shiny or wet. In simple terms, I was imagining "Ikan Keli Sambal" and "Ikan Keli Bakar" swimming in their tank the whole time 😭

I never expected myself to be this stupid this whole time. This is a revelation to me as much as it is to y'all.

I'll always prefer English over Malay just bcos of its simplicity.

When referring to your married partner's family members, in English you literally just add In Law at the end and you're off to the races. In Malay, I for the life of me can never quite math what should be Menantu, Mertua, Besan, or whatever else is there.

When referring to someone by name/title, in English, literally just call their name no matter their age and you will not be crucified for being disrespectful. You could just prefix Mr or Ms if you're feeling a little fancy, or Mrs for a married woman with their husband's surname if you're feeling fancier - but that isn't really needed and doesn't even apply 100% of the time here. In Malay, I also can never figure out if I should use Encik, Cik, Tuan, Puan, or whatever else depending on their age or status or whatever other idiotic things I somehow have to consider just to address someone (while being respectful).

When talking directly to someone, in English just use I and You. That's it, case closed. In Malay, I can NEVER decide if I should use Aku and Kau, Saya and Awak, or Kamu (idek what this pairs with). With boys, I normally resort to Aku/Kau cos I feel like using anything else feels a lil icky. With girls, I feel like the second pairing would be more suitable but I just could not so I go with the same Aku/Kau pairing but with a softer tone (lmao) or cheat and use English whenever I've to address them directly. With elderlies (who know my name), I just refer to myself with my name lol.

I feel like that last bit is the one I've trouble the most. I remember being called out in my first ever relationship in the long past bcos they realised I was never consistent in which pair I use like I'd use Saya with Kau in one message thread, then Aku and Awak in the next :neofox_boop_woozy:

I hope in my next job I'll never have to compose an email or worse, speak in Malay ever again bcos that was honestly quite traumatising.

Apparently a lot of people (esp Japanese?) are upset at this new Pro ad from a couple of days ago. I guess I can see why though, a bit like throwing thousands' worth of food away just for content?

Imagine getting the cheapest, secondhand car you could find with the sole purpose of leaving it at a free parking spot nearest to your destination MRT station i.e. your workplace.

Then you can commute daily to your nearby home MRT station (through various means i.e. your "primary" car, hitching a ride with someone at your home, feeder bus), take the MRT to your destination station i.e. workplace, then take that car on the short drive to/from your workplace.

Heck you could even share this car with your colleagues or whomever as like a personal bus, granted, they're on a similar schedule.

Dk if this is a big brain move, T20 move, or something else entirely.

irfan, to django

Hmm I've only ever built sites using , bcos I'm most good at and I'm just super familiar with all the features (and quirks) of Django and it's been great, but honestly being good at only Django (when it comes to web dev) does gimme huge impostor syndrome cos I know fuck all when people talk about and whatnot :(

Maybe I can learn how to build a site using so I too can speak gibberish lingo I never understood before with other fellow programmers?

Seeing layoffs after layoffs among devs/designers etc. even if they're not happening where I'm located (afaik) has been a big fuckin bummer. How do people even survive, without going indie (and going indie I imagine is a massive privilege and is just as hard if not harder).

irfan, to random

Whenever I hear the term "web3" or "web2" being thrown around by someone, I immediately flag them as a boomer cos I never understood what shit that is and I've no urgency to want to know what they mean. The web is the web, is the web to me.

#HughLaurie is one of my most favourite actors of all time, it's unfortunate I almost never see him in any piece of media I watch other than where I first learned of him, #HouseMD. I always find the same (British) actors in a lot of content surrounding British people/culture, but never him... That man is a living legend to my eyes, so idk why that's the case other than him refusing a lot of acting offers, or I'm just not watching the right shows where he'd be interested in acting in.

irfan, to fediverse

Hi all, I've just migrated from @irfan to this account on sakurajima.social. I'll also be attempting to migrate my main account @irfan to this one in the coming days, but I'm expecting nothing on that front since it's failed so far.

I've moved to multiple servers throughout my time on the #Fediverse in pursuit for a "permanent" instance to be on, and I've never had the chance to write an #intro post lol so this will be my first.

I'm a 26 year old (in Nov 2024) (gfdi) programmer obsessed with languages such as #Python and #Shell, frameworks like #Django, and #CloudNative shenanigans like #Docker, #Kubernetes, and #Helm. I'm also obsessed with #FOSS and #Linux, and promoting them to be more viable each day for the masses so everyone could have not just free but secure access to daily computing.

Entertainment wise, I'm into both English but mostly Japanese content - including #anime. I also often play western and Japanese #games on #Nintendo and #Steam. My primary #gaming devices are my #SteamDeck, my #ArchLinux/#EndeavourOS based #PC, and my old and dusty #NintendoSwitch. My fav animes include #Gintama (as per my pfp), #NatsumeYuujinchou, and #AttackOnTitan. My fav games include #NierAutomata, #StardewValley, and #EldenRing. My fav genres include anything that evokes strong emotions and grabs my full attention like #horror, #thriller, and #mystery.

I'll be using this account to mostly document my passions through mini reviews or rants. I have another picture-based account over on #Pixelfed, @irfan. All images I have posted and will be posting will include descriptive/alt text, including my pfp and banner. I also have some bots for posting local (to me, #Malaysia) #news and other relevant data cos the #Mastodon API is just so fun to play with.

irfan, to Disney

I think the news about #Disney essentially "reinventing" cable channels again into their streaming service, #DisneyPlus is pretty hilarious, though I'm not exactly surprised by that since I too honestly have been wanting such a feature on #Plex or #Jellyfin for really long time.

The idea is, you could still watch things on demand, unlike cable channels of old, but you could also just tune in to a channel and be "served" different things to watch by episode, or by movie, based on what is available. That'd be perfect when you just want to leave the TV on and have it play random stuffs all day.

There's a huge backdoor ( -2024-3094) allowing remote SSH access (as far as I can tell at this moment) caused by a util called affecting a ton of systems ( and , well not really) and it's causing quite a huge panic. I honestly don't know much about it just yet, but just sharing some pieces to read about the huge vulnerability.

The person who had maliciously planted this vulnerability into xz-utils, Jia Tan, has made at least 750 contributions to the project over the past 2 years. They even have direct push access to the code repo, allowing them to have pushed commits with forged authors. Being "free" from this vulnerability is not as simple as reverting to a previous version due to just how much and how long they've contributed to the project, and people are rightfully suspicious that this person might have hidden other backdoors in xz.

Unlike most other vulnerabilities, it's a lot harder to pinpoint versions affected by this but the most likely case is most systems out there have xz installed on their system that are impacted - which at this moment, the info being thrown around is any version past 5.3.1, 5.4.6, or 5.6.0 (latest is 5.6.1).

Life as a consumer in Malaysia is easy: see "Produk Melayu" or "Produk Buatan Muslim" and the like -> don't fucking buy.

Otherwise if it has no stupid mentions of race or religion, and if it's a good or safe product for you (i.e. for consumption) then please buy all you want. If it's a local product, I say that's better.

I just....... realised all these recent talks of "New Villages" were actually referring to the Kampung Barus..... Was wondering why I have no idea what they were, I legit thought it was an older gen thing (or if local history is ur passion) 😭 My gen, Hidden Village I know.

I was mad when I learned that Perlis (Malaysia's smallest state) is actually bigger than Singapore, because people often joked that Perlis could only fit 8 citizens and it broke my immersion knowing/recognising that Singapore isn't that small (hence, Perlis too) lmao.
