Idk if this is a Nunjucks thing or an Eleventy thing but template blocks (like if blocks, for loop blocks etc.) leaving empty lines after rendering is driving me nuts since I'm used to how Helm's templating works instead which imo is a lot more intuitive/cleaner.
@anianimalsmoe this looks promising tho - it should work for at least simpler situations like if I need to send a ton of messages programmatically, one time rather than all the time.
Bonkers how you can't 3 finger tap an item/link to open it in a new tab on #macOS like you could on #Linux (and #Windows, probably). #Apple forums I was looking into this on all starts with a simple, civilised question and quickly drags into a messy garbage of Apple extremists saying you're stupid for wanting that simple way of opening stuffs in a new tab when you can just either 1) Cmd + Click, 2) 2 finger tap + Open new tab, or 3) Get a mouse - as if those are the same things, when the answer should've been really, "you couldn't".
@adamsdesk I'm on Ventura still and holding off on updating to Sonoma since I've seen quite frequent reports on here of things I need being broken on Sonoma, but seems like a good option when I do upgrade. Thank you!
Kinda nuts how something as "widespread" and popular as #Homebrew, a #FOSS project, has no clear-cut option as a GUI frontend for it available on #macOS that's also FOSS. Looking this up will always return some paid options, or maybe a FOSS one that's been far too long abandoned/archived with no guarantees that it'd work. Unfortunately, that's all too common on macOS, I've learned.
@voyager I don't need it and similarly prefer being without it. Like other tools, I've set up a bunch of aliases and whatnot to make using it as seamless/consistent as possible w everything else I use.
but on Linux for instance, tools like this will always have a ton of GUI options available that support it - like KDE's Discover app for instance that supports a variety of package managers very well. These apps are very useful when I want to promote using something like Homebrew to others that will never touch a CLI, like my partner for instance haha.
I install stuffs for her using Brew, but when she encounters a problem with an app and want to reinstall it she'd just habitually delete the app binary like u would any other apps on macOS and reinstall them "manually". It'd be so much easier to teach them to do so with Brew but using GUI.
@voyager oh wow, yea I'm aware of Cork and there was one or two others people often mentioned with only 1 being FOSS but it's been abandoned too long ago and there's doubts whether it still works esp on Apple silicon Macs, but I somehow have totally missed Applite - none of the recent discussions/Reddit threads talking about needing a GUI for Homebrew has mentioned Applite.
Skimming through the repo, it looks like a pretty solid option. I guess I could install and test it out to see if it's a good enough to recommend to others. Thank you!!

This whole thread about the Recall feature on #Microsoft Copilot PCs is making me anxious about future workplaces that may supply a Recall-capable #Windows laptop, and enforcing it/the policy to be enabled.
You should never install personal stuffs on a work PC for privacy reasons, but doesn't this take it to a whole nother level where you couldn't/shouldn't even i.e. reply to personal messages on it cos it's all recorded? 😮💨
But meh, fuck employers that'd force you to use a certain OS anyway.
@rakyat yea, this is the other side of the coin - there's an incentive for employers to enforce it but also a counter that should hopefully prevent them from even considering it. Overall, this feature does sound like an absolute nightmare.
Microsoft should know that all they need to do is just fix their broken search function and implement a working Spotlight-like feature found on macOS and Linux where people could easily look for their files or wtv else insanely quickly - even from their content in cases of files, instead of having an AI watch over you 24/7.
But ofc, they don't have an incentive to do that lol.

@rakyat I used to report a lot pre-Elon and 80% of the time action has been taken. I don’t use Twitter as much anymore post-Elon but stupid shit like this are on the rise and NONE of my reports have took. The difference is so drastic that I can’t help but feel no one is actually manning the post, checking these reports.
I hate finding out that people bred (and still do) dogs to live miserable, low quality lives for the purpose of making them look cute or exotic to human masters tho.
I'm not certain if it happens to cats too, I'd be surprised if it doesn't but I've certainly not heard of it much or at all. The only breeding with cats I've came across is a group of Thais trying to bring back a long lost/extinct breed of cats called Wilaat or Vilaat that were native to the Thailand of yore but as far as I can tell this is fine and safe, unlike the breeding of dogs to make them have extremely cramped internal organs or have short legs they could barely survive with.
I absolutely DON'T blame the people that adopt these dogs, I know some see this as encouraging breeders to continue their vile breeding of dogs BUT adopting these dogs, caring for them, and loving them is the LEAST you could do after these dogs were bred into existence in this human-infested world. I'm always super thankful seeing amazing pet owners because you KNOW their dogs live a life full of happiness because of them and they DESERVE nothing less 😭
Regardless tho I def cannot adopt cats or dogs knowing that they'll likely die before me, I don't think I can bear that. My tortoises are the same age as me and I'm certain they'll outlive me at this point. They're also a lot more affectionate than you think, maybe even more than cats lol and certainly more than fishes.
Gave in and just ordered a standing desk with those fancy buttons where you can raise the thing. And I ordered a LONG table, just like how I like it. I like to scatter all my things when I work lol
