You were right about the #DDOS issues with #ActivityPub and WordPress I am finding it hard to keep the blog online with basic sharing and the AP Pugin.
@pfefferle might be good to put out an approximate idea of the server increase to keep a WordPress site working with the #AP plugin?
I get that #nostr is popular with people who don't want to share a server with anybody (and their rules). But don't lots of people achieve that with a stripped down implementation of #ActivityPub?
@wjmaggos nostr is not a bad project, but it's still using instances's just calling them relays and not promoting the community side of this. The conversations around this are not the best. People argue that #bluesky and #nostr are both spoilers on #activitypub there is some truth to this, though am more they are all #4opens and diversity is good, but please be honest path.
@john_fisherman humm think the might be bot that trashes my website every time I post a link on social media, happens pretty much every time i post a link in some places. Its rebooted :)
Or the website needs an update, it is a bit broken, an issue with our #DIY culture of self-hosting, when you lose focus code stops working...
@john_fisherman the issue is that only a tiny number of people actually want to live this path, how does the #openweb have use and meaning to the vast majority. This is a social, rather than tech issue that is urgent to address for the needed social change and challenge in this era of #climatechaos
"Meta's fediverses", federating with Meta to allow communications, potentially using services from Meta such as automated moderation or ad targeting, and potentially harvesting data on Meta's behalf.
"free fediverses" that reject Meta – and surveillance capitalism more generally
The free fediverses have a lot of advantages over Meta and Meta's fediverses, some of which will be very hard to counter, and clearly have enough critical mass that they'll be just fine.
Here's a set of strategies for the free fediverses to provide a viable alternative to surveillance capitalism. They build on the strengths of today's fediverse at its best – including natural advantages the free fediverses have that Threads and Meta's fediverses will having a very hard time countering – but also are hopefully candid about weaknesses that need to be addressed. It's a long list, so I'll be spreading out over multiple posts; this post currently goes into detail on the first two.
Opposition to Meta and surveillance capitalism is an appealing position. Highlight it!
Focus on consent (including consent-based federation), privacy, and safety
Emphasize "networked communities"
Support concentric federations of instances and communities
Consider "transitively defederating" Meta's fediverses (as well as defederating Threads)
Consider working with people and instances in Meta's fediverses (and Bluesky, Dreamwidth, and other social networks) whose goals and values align with the free fediverses'
Build a sustainable ecosystem
Prepare for Meta's (and their allies') attempts to paint the free fediverses in a bad light
Reduce the dependency on Mastodon
Prioritize accessibility, which is a huge opportunity
Commit to anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, and pro-LGBTQIA2S+ principles, policies, practices, and norms for the free fediverses
#NGIForum23 The is no way to edit or remove questions. The is no way to talk to anyone... A normal #NGI "trust" #4opens fail, except this time it is a hardcoded due to the use of this CMS for the event. Before this we used #FOSS with #BBB which worked well, then #dotcons silos that worked after a fight each time to get chat turned on, now we are here #blocking, every #EU tech event has pushed this "control" mess over the public. What are you guys in "control" going to do to stop this.
@rriemann@gvlx am looking at it now and trying to find out if it has any way from the public to chat to each other or to the organizers on the streaming video or inside the CMS have not found anything yet, do you know if it has this function?
Had a look thought the #Particify site, and it seems to be only a ONE-WAY tool, with controlled/shaped feedback. Which is why whoever organized #NGIForum23 used it. This is not "people to people" and it's not "trust". How can we go about putting in an official complaint to #NGI and their sponsors about this mess they keep pushing #EU
Can anyone remember the last time something good happened at the global level, or a time when one of our leaders said something that wasn't completely wrong or awful? It feels like everything is taking us in the wrong direction, and has been for a long time.
Under capitalism (and neoliberalism is extreme capitalism) everything has a price, and thus must be paid for. In general, waterways are "commons" thus do not have prices for meany things, or are cross subsidized by meany stakeholders. Over the last 40 years we have tried (and often failed) to bring this "price logic" to enclose the water "commons" this is going through a new wave in the UK lead by #CRT and #mainstreaming thinking.
One problem is I have not reinbust the activism instance before we shut it down so cant get the invoices for this so looks like am personally paying for the last 3-6 month of use for that instances, bit crap but there you are. Mess.
