Bye bye, 👋

(I decided to keep my account. My statement that SO has some of my work, yet stole it. But I will not, can not contribute anything more.)

@smallcircles Is there anything in this space yet?

Fedora Silverblue 40 is out today. If you have rpm-fusion layered so you can’t upgrade through GNOME Software, run these commands in Terminal:

  1. Pin current version:

sudo ostree admin pin 0

  1. Handle rpm-fusion nastiness:

rpm-ostree update --uninstall rpmfusion-free-release --uninstall rpmfusion-nonfree-release --install rpmfusion-free-release --install rpmfusion-nonfree-release

  1. Rebase to Fedora Silverblue 40:

rpm-ostree rebase fedora:fedora/40/x86_64/silverblue

@aral Unrelated question, how have you liked the atomic desktop for development? I'm thinking about using Fedora Kinoite 40 and while I like the idea, I'm not sure how it goes in practice. Are you doing software development using Toolbox or Distrobox?

ggpsv,
@ggpsv@social.coop avatar

@ljrk @aral I went ahead with workstation 40 KDE for now while I get used to things, but I'm replicating my workflows as if it were an atomic desktop. I plan to switch over once I get a hang of things.

Mainly, using flatpak for all gui apps, installing from dnf only the things that I'd layer (for example, tailscale), and try to use toolbox for everything else.

i am so over the web design trend where every piece of text on the page has to animate in

A webpage for a "Noble" crypto project, where each piece of text slides into view on scroll

@molly0xfff Running into sites using media queries or checking for reduced motion is somewhat like running into a legendary pokemon when starting out in Pallet Town.

Ozone, Bluesky's stackable moderation system is up and open-sourced.

I think it's interesting in obvious ways and risky in some less obvious ones (that have less to do with "O NO BILLIONAIRES" or "O NO LIBERTARIANS" and more to do with placelessness), but we'll see.

I hope good things emerge from/grow on top of this framework.

[I recognize that mentioning this is widely considered to be an invitation to explain capital like I am a tiny baby. You could also not.]

@erlend @kissane Are there any services using AP that are designed as you suggest?

My son would like to start dabbling with making music, so …

What’s the best DAW ever? 😁

And which synthesizer apps are the cool kids using these days?

ggpsv,
@ggpsv@social.coop avatar

@matthiasott Garage Band is not that bad to get started! As for apps, Korg's Gadget is good and accessible: DAW-like, but more focused on synths.

Out of all the "they don't build 'em like they used too", the Osterizer blender is one of the most legit.

Tough as nails and repairable. There are at least 3 of these in my extended family, most are 20-30 years old and still screaming.

Been reading a book containing a collection of essays written by Wendell Berry. I've jotted a star in the index next to each essay that I enjoyed.

Thinking I'll stop that considering that I've jotted all essays I've read so far. I wasn't expecting anything less though.

Is anyone using Obsidian to collaborate on notes/wikis with others? Either with Obsidian sync or a something like Syncthing? Looking for a reliable alternative to Notion for a wiki for two persons to collaborate on which uses actual files, works offline, and mostly works with your editor of choice.

Looking for some help. People who use WordPress for their website but use a managed hosting service. Which managed provider do you recommend given the most basic needs of a tiny website with almost no traffic?

I'm recommending Wordpress to someone for a particular need that they have, but the cheapest plan at FlyWheel and WPEngine are bit too steep to justify it.
