Are you supporting anti-war candidates in elections this year?

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@thisismissem "supporting" is not necessarily "voting"!

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

@forteller it's up to you! The point is to ask that question.

evan,
@evan@cosocial.ca avatar

I was donating to the campaign of Representative Jamaal Bowman yesterday when I thought of this poll.

https://www.bowmanforcongress.com/

Several anti-war candidates are under attack in primaries in the US. Bowman is one. Donating to their campaigns will help keep anti-war voices in Congress.

    @dansup @pixelfed a somewhat-related question: how good is pixelfed at multihoming (one software installation, multiple sites)?

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @dansup @pixelfed awesome! I think that's a key feature both for scalability and for data portability.

    Is there any software that allows instances to be at different pathnames, instead of different hostname / port combinations?

    Like:

    https://social.example/foo => one instance

    https://social.example/bar => a totally different instance

    As far as I know no, but I'm looking at the spec, and I'm not sure there's anything in there about this?

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @thisismissem there's nothing in there about it. Instances aren't even a thing in the spec.

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @thisismissem Webfinger depends on it, though.

    Is there a canonical essay about (the problems with and complexities of) social media aggregation as journalism that I can just link to so I don't have to break down the angles and weirdnesses myself?

    There has to be, right?

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @kissane are you talking about aggregation on a personal level, like when I bring my Instagram, Reddit and WordPress feeds all into Twitter?

    Or aggregation like when two or three big companies keep buying up the new startups?

    The term "the Fediverse" refers to:

    #EvanPoll #poll

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    Interesting responses! I often see discussions of the Fediverse that talk about software like Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc. It's interesting that that's the least checked item. I think of the fediverse as communities first, people second, protocols and software much less.

    How much do you travel?

    #EvanPoll #poll

    This year has been way too much.

    Is there a general-purpose ActivityPub implementation that runs on cheapo PHP+MySQL hosting?

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @Edent ActivityPub API too?

    evan,
    @evan@cosocial.ca avatar

    @Edent Ah, that's too bad. ActivityPub defines an API that lets client software post new activities. Thanks though!
