I see dozens of parrots almost every time I leave the house, but I can’t imagine a time when seeing them won’t put a smile on my face. @dashrb in the 1990s, it was believed that the U.S. and NATO were more reliant on space-based systems for communications, command, control and intelligence (C₃I) and so part of Russian doctrine in nuclear war could be to detonate nuclear weapons in near space destroying or crippling all of space based assets, which would harm Russia’s adversaries more then it would harm Russia.
I’d like to think they’ve updated their thinking, but would not hold my breath.

@joshhelfferich we have come back before, haltingly, even incompletely. But there were other periods where say treating people as pure property was glorified and then was not. Periods of bigoted cruelties being championed were replaced with periods where such ideas were spoken only in private in hushed tones for the shame they’d brought.
