oh wow ____ band is doing a tour where they will play my favorite album in its entirety. this might be the last chance to see the actual composers of this beloved music in person!!!

reads fine print

no original band members are left in the band now, it’s just some random guys, one has a weird haircut, what’s his deal?

can’t believe people just raw-dogging covid.

at my job, there’s someone who i’m pretty sure has some form of long covid already, she suddenly got extremely sick, but came in to work anyway.
then she tested positive for covid, everyone was aware of that.
she still came to work, wore a surgical mask in the morning, but it was off by the afternoon.
i was the only person there masked at that point.
others were going up and having face to face conversations with her… about having covid!!
the fuck?

i can’t believe i’m saying this in the year 2024 but this new Macklemore drop goes extremely hard, and makes that Drake vs Kendrick Lamar rap battle look very childish.

the whole "bear vs. men" discourse going around now (in case you're not on tiktok or haven't seen spillover onto other social networks it goes "would you rather be in an outdoor space with a bear or a man?" and has people overwhelmingly choosing bear) is that i made this exact observation to a pal years ago, and he thought i was mad.
a close encounter with a bear is scary, sure... but i'd prefer that one-hundred times over to a man.
men are terrifying.

not that anyone gives a shit, but here's a thread of my favorite ambient albums.
here's a hashtag:

another Eno choice that's less heralded, but i think it's fucking brilliant is the Shutov Assembly.

Cities in Fog by Jeff Greinke is my idea of a perfect album. it's so goddamned good.
there's a Cities in Fog 2 album, which is okay, but the original is the best.

on one hand, i think this is another "no duh" choice, but on the other, from what i can gather people prefer Selected Ambient Works 85-92, which i think is as boring as accounting.

Selected Ambient Works II by Aphex Twin

@eyesquash yes to both. tandream's mid period stuff like Exit & Hyperborea are total favorites.

Today in we have the release anniversaries (one a Wood Jubilee) of a duo of duos' albums to celebrate:

[14] Autechre's "Oversteps": https://autechre.warp.net/release/249266-autechre-oversteps
[5: Wood] Sleaford Mods' "Eton Alive": https://cargorecordsdirect.co.uk/collections/extreme-eating/products/sleaford-mods-eton-alive

Primeval is the quality I hear running through these two. In Oversteps' string-like sounds – guitar, harp, dulcimer – as if modelled after echoes found in ancient archaeology, and Eton Alive's howls about society.

Happy Anniversary, @sean_ae & Rob; and Jason & Andrew!

@defaultmediatransmitter @sean_ae @miblo you'll have to do it for Keiji Haino or Muslimgauze instead, haha.

My step-brother-in-law is a famous metal musician and is now getting into scoring music, or so he says on IG.

Studying Hans Zimmer. Or something. He says and does a lot on social media, I can't keep up between his numerous product endorsements, partnerships, and brand-supporting commercial activities. I don't think he's ever "hearted" a single thing I've done.

Our musical tastes overlap on the fringes but that's it. We have never collaborated, I just couldn't get him to respond to me about it. I don't feel like we had a falling out, we talked a lot on a trip together but he seems fairly locked in his own world of high octane metal and overbearing ego projection into the cybersphere.

In other words, he's a rock star. :)

He is a serious guitar gearhead too and if the "film scoring" brag is real, I am predicting he will start a modular or do some kind of enormous expensive custom synth within the next year. Maybe two tops.

c_reider,
@c_reider@sonomu.club avatar

@dtauvdiodr i don't get the Hans Zimmer hype. every industry studio type wants to do Hans Zimmer-esque movie scoring and it's just too much circular thinking. no one doing anything original.

c_reider,
@c_reider@sonomu.club avatar

@dtauvdiodr used to be like that with nine inch nails.

c_reider,
@c_reider@sonomu.club avatar

@dtauvdiodr me neither. it was a real annoyance for a while as it seemed to be most people’s only concept of electronic music.

c_reider,
@c_reider@sonomu.club avatar

@dtauvdiodr @jzitt right? most of these categorizations are too ambiguous to make sense.
also there's nothing wrong with a little four on the floor dionysian dance music. it's no surprise people want to make it & listen to it.

this new job i've got doesn't give me any time to work on new music. but i have old and recent music, all pay what you want including free, for people who don't have any money to spare.

it's funny that not working on music for three months and i feel like maybe i'm not really a musician anymore, just a pretender.
