your unpleasant lizard.

I've been floating in the fediverse since at least 2018 in one guise or another.

Ok weirdos, an old friend kindly gave me an sdr box (sdrplay rsp1) so now I need some of that sweet free open source shit to use with it.
Linux only, no wine or vm stuff.

Who can tell me what's hot ?

I think my DIY eurorack case is coming along nicely.

There are some ugly gaps between the frame and the wood that I'm going to fix tomorrow. I also have to fasten the frame, PSU, bus board, cute handles and some corner protection thingys. When all this is done I'm going to sand down all visible parts and give it a nice dark brown finishing. I'm thinking either oak or mahogany-like.

Why can't they suck the goo out of your eyeballs, filter out all the shit and crap that causes floaters and then squirt it back in again?

Yes, it was not an entirely serious suggestion, of course

    Yay my eurorack frame arrived. It looks sick! Looks like more parts will arrive tomorrow so I'll spend the weekend working on the case and building modules. I can't wait!

    It would be in the spirit of the fedi to document it all exhaustively (and exhaustingly) with pictures

    botvolution,
    @botvolution@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @MLE_online @foxxtrot
    Are we talking dark rye as in pumpernickel or dark rye as in bread simply made with dark rye flour?
    Because I make the latter weekly. Sourdough.
    It is a sticky affair. If I want a decent rise it needs a pretty wet dough. Not a pleasure to handle.

    Is there a standalone piece of electronic #music equipment that I could buy to dip my toes in? I find myself gravitating towards the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering. It looks like it includes just about everything I could imagine to get started fooling around but maybe I'm way off base.

    botvolution,
    @botvolution@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @withoutclass
    Questions like this tend to prompt people to tell you that the thing they personally own and like would be better for you than the one you've mentioned.

    Fwiw, if you can afford the TE, and you like the look of it, buy it and see how you like it. If you don't get on with it, you can sell it and treat the loss you'll inevitably make as rental.

    There's a zillion do-everything synths out there. Fill your boots, as they say.

    It's quite fun, perfectly decent as a kick or hihat. A bit clicky but some people like that & the build instructions warn about it too.
    Good soldering practice for thru hole for a beginner. Worked first time, no smoke or anything.
    The roll gate is a bit finicky to get sounding right, but when you do it works well.
    Obviously the biggest "issue" from a modular perspective is that there's no voltage control over any parameters, but on the other hand it cost me < £30 to build.

    botvolution,
    @botvolution@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @symmetrizer
    An equivalent commercial module with VC over all those parameters would be probably twice the size and 10x the cost.

    So, in summary, I like it lol.

    botvolution,
    @botvolution@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

    @symmetrizer
    Cool.
    Tip: a shrouded power header won't fit as it is obstructed by other components. So order a plain 2x5 header.
