I'm just going to leave this right here and have you imagine the reality-rending shriek that has just left my body:

https://www.biometricupdate.com/202402/facial-recognition-service-says-it-is-for-suspicious-lovers-not-stalking

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@evacide nah, it's OK, the CEO says they're just "leveraging state-of-the-art facial recognition"
Nothing leveraged by a techbro has ever turned out bad...
...even though tech CEOs sometimes use "leverage" just to sound like they understand the technology, and facial recognition is heavily flawed...
Seriously, this is stalkerware. This is a perv's dream. I work in a school, I have access to photos of every student that has ever attended, can I find their profiles? That's fucked up.

@fell oh I really need to declutter again... My desk is a mess and I hardly use it because of that. I just sit hunched over on the couch and suffer.

I rate it 1 star, which is the maximum amount of stars I can give on this platform.

This morning started weird...I just watched a guys shaving is beard on the internet with a safety razor blade...I blame @joel for this... Now I wanna buy one, dammit!

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@joel @bonaccolto90 @dm don't know which is best but I have this thing https://merkurshave.com/merkur-safety-razor-38c-barber-pole-hd-straight-guard-german-9038001/ but there probably isn't a big difference

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@bonaccolto90 @joel @dm I've cut myself less with a single blade safety razor than with any disposable. But, maybe I'm just more careful?

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@joel @bonaccolto90 @dm I meant that I'm being more careful because I am using that razor, not that I am generally more careful in life.

Someone gifted me a safety razor. It's exactly the kinda thing I kinda want but don't wanna spend on so. I'll now follow on @kev's footsteps and maybe try out this instead of disposable ones :blobcatderpy:

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@adamsdesk @joel about 10 years ago I got a safety razor. I decided to buy an entire box of blades. I'm still only halfway through that box. It cost €9. I did buy a cheap brush that fell apart after 3 months though. I noticed it was a bit of a trend after and I totally get it. Much better shave.

This week #BeReal spilled over into my classes. The number of student users has grown to such a point that it is disturbing classes across the campus.
I am upset by the fact that I have been photographed while at work. The coincidence that it happened during a lesson on BJ Fogg is salt in the wound.
And, just in time, BeReal, which received funding from a16z and the likes, is surprising nobody by announcing the arrival of brands and celebs.
"Real" indeed.

Dear "news" sites,

I don't want to read a listicle,
I don't want to know what the "best deals" are or scroll through Amazon links,
I have no idea who Taylor Swift is, but if they are a popstar any news about them should go in the entertainment section rather than "World News",
If I want to know who won an award, I'll go to the official website of that ceremony,
I shouldn't need to turn off adblockers to see your site,
Your cookie banners are too big,
Your AI-generated articles are trash.

Question : Do you know how Norwegians fill out their tax returns?
Answer : They don´t.

This is an oversimplification, but years ago Norwegians started to get pre-filled tax returns in the mail. Later they stopped getting them, but instead had to do an OK online. Now even that is not needed. No comment means it is is OK. You can rectify and modify details online, if needed.

The reality is that the government already had most of the data needed for most individuals. Your salary is reported by the company you work for. Your bank details, including anything you have in your accounts, any loans, stocks, bonds, etc., is reported as well. Your kids are known as well. There might be details to add, but most is known. Why waste people´s time filling out details that are already known and risk people making mistakes?

When will the US get there?

bbbhltz,
@bbbhltz@framapiaf.org avatar

@jon we have the same setup in France, the only thing I need to add each year is school fees and my entrepreneurial work

Looking for recommendations.

I'm looking a co-op game to play with my wife that has a decent story, and that can be played in the same room?

We played It Takes Two recently, which was fun (although incredibly difficult in some places), but it seems to be fairly unusual in that it it's a split screen. Most co-op games these days seem to need to be played separately, meaning we have to communicate via voice comms.

I let things slide. Mostly. I make an effort to not be difficult, especially since I do not work in tech. For example, I wouldn't be upset about code being on GitHub.

My eyes will roll, though, if your landing page is filled with Corporate Memphis artwork AND your forum is a Discord AND your blog is on Medium.

Our students are allowed to appeal and challenge their grades. This has never been an issue. In our department, we might have a handful per semester.

Well, that was then, this is now, and now my manager is getting hundreds of email notifications. Entire classes are appealing. Even students with 90% averages.

I guess we're going to start rounding up to the nearest multiple of 5 or 10 or just do pass/fail/Mulligan or something.
