Did anyone -- anywhere -- actually believe that Ron Johnson didn't understand what he was doing?

"Sen. Ron Johnson's claim he knew nothing about a fake electors plot isn't believable"

"Johnson initially claimed he didn’t know about the plot, but recent documents — including text messages — show that Johnson and his staff were told explicitly about the plot to deliver the fake electoral votes."

Given my yrs of research (80-100 hrs/wk) on fake soc. media accts & disinfo machines, here's a pro-tip:

If you have a generalized soc media acct (e.g., "cool flower pics" or "history pics," etc.) OR a bot, include who runs it or created it in the bio.

If you're followed by one of these accts, check for that info in the bio. If it isn't there, block it.

Disinfo machines are notorious for using such accounts to dupe people into a false sense of security, then flipping to political disinfo.

Lots of recent reminders about why I'm irritated with so many Dems who voted to SAVE Mike Johnson's speakership role.

The latest reminder:

He just put Ronny Jackson and Scott Perry on the House Intel committee.

A PAC I can get behind.

"Former Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn starts PAC after losing House run"

"The group will be called Dunn’s Democracy Defenders, and it aims to stop former President Donald Trump and what Dunn calls “MAGA extremists” in the Republican Party from winning their elections this fall. Dunn plans to endorse candidates up and down the ballot through the group, using his personal story and his fundraising prowess to help in targeted races.

A friend asked me about what and plays her recently stage-struck daughter might want to see. I was full of ideas, and I found this excellent summary of performances available on the various streaming services. Enjoy!

THANK YOU.

Your timing couldn't be better. My daughter recently became full-on enamored with musicals ... and I've been struggling to find stuff for her to watch. (My knowledge is basically relegated to Andrew Lloyd Weber ... 😬 )

Periodic reminder that a person who understands moral principles, yet chooses to do bad things anyway is an IMMoral person (prefix = against or opposite of), not "amoral."

Amorality (prefix = without) ... so, without moral sense. An example is the dog peeing on your shoe. That is an amoral act. Very very different from an immoral human.

Given the amount of news coverage on the MAGA response to Trump's criminal conviction, normal people who don't ingest a ton of news would think that very few support the conviction or the fairness of the trial. But that's not true.

The MAGA base is loud but most estimates have them as only 25%-30% of the population.

Over-amplification of the MAGA minority viewpoint, regretfully, boosts that perspective. Regular people will view it as the "popular" view -- when it is not.

I had my 13 year old watch the verdict. Afterwards, I said--in a calm, measured tone: "This is important because it proves that nobody is above the law. That's one of the most important foundations of a democracy."

Then I danced around screeching with glee. ;-)

Upon hearing Trump wants to crush the anti-war protests in support of Palestinian civilians, did anyone else immediately think about how Trump tried to order police to shoot BLM protestors (and had peaceful protestors gassed en masse)?

Argh. MSM.

I'd MUCH rather hear from Officers Dunn and Fanone and actor Robert De Niro than to keep listening to the same thing over and over and over from every legal analyst ....

They've consistently (and repeatedly) shown every Trump suck-up who spoke outside of the courthouse, but they're ignoring the officers and De Niro?

Not great.

Via Kyle Griffin:

In light of the second Alito flag report, Senate Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin is calling for Samuel #Alito to recuse himself "immediately" from cases related to the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 insurrection "for the good of the country."

He adds: "The Chief Justice must see how this is damaging the Court and immediately enact an enforceable code of conduct."

Because that tact (finger-wagging, essentially) worked SOOOOOO well with Clarence Thomas.

Pundits absolutely do not grasp the fact that Trump's trial's value does NOT rest on whether or not it "moves voters" if he's convicted.

The VALUE is accountability.

The VALUE is a working system of law that functions--regardless of whom the person happens to be or what position that person holds.

Treating it like "no biggie" because voters APPEAR unmoved is great messaging -- for Trump.

@Lassielmr @chemoelectric

Should we skip trying a person for beating his wife because he also killed his neighbor? Of course not. Thus, relative importance (or lack thereof) is a faulty premise.

Trump & crew are playing victims regardless. That's their entire schtick since the 2020 election. Fear of their response is not a reason to skip basic principles. Especially when the principle (nobody is above the law) is foundational to democracy. If we can't do that, we've proven it's a lie.

VirginiaMurr,
@VirginiaMurr@mastodon.social avatar

@chemoelectric @Lassielmr

I get why you say that...but I do disagree.

He was raised by people with poor character to revere poor character. He knows right from wrong but believes he's an Ubermensch that rises above that. Because that is what he was taught to believe by those people of poor character. So, it's really bad character paired with intense, insatiable egotism who thrills at the idea of bucking ethical norms. That's not a mental disability. That's learned behavior...and a choice.
