I hate to say that I called it. In fact I really wish that I had been wrong, when I've been saying repeatedly that we were getting ready for the return of Section 28 in England. At least an updated version of it for transgender youth.

The UK government has announced that it is banning sex education for kids under 9.

Rachel Johnson spoke in favour of the Tory idea of reintroducing National Service. She tried to invoke the spirit of everyone doing what was right for the nation during the pandemic.

Just a reminder. She like her brother and father, breached lockdown rules for her own selfish interests.
In her case, she traveled to her second home to play tennis.

She also said the quiet part out loud though, about this being to get unpaid labour. As she thinks it should include forcing people to pick fruit.

As well as registering for a postal vote, it's worth making sure you have photographic ID.

There's a list of accepted ID here, as well as a link to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.
https://www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need

Veterans ID still will not count. Something the Veterans Minister Johnny Mercer apologised for and said he would aim to rectify. But was denied, as broadening the accepted ID would allow more students and younger people to vote.

Senior citizens can use travel cards. Youngsters can't.

There is something quite sick about a generation that took every opportunity away from young people, now telling them to either enlist in the military or do unpaid work for a country that clearly hates them.

How about bringing back well paid and secure jobs?
Final salary pensions? Or at least a pension you can live to see and live a decent retirement on?
Union rights?
Affordable housing to buy, and decent social housing to rent?
Affordable rail travel?
NHS dental care?

Just a thought.

A Tesla driver has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, after crashing into and killing a motorcyclist while having the car in the "autopilot" mode.

At least 92 of the 105 arrested at the protests in London today were from the 'counter demonstration'. Or to put it bluntly, the far-right thugs who went specifically to look for a fight and make themselves feel better by being openly racist in public.

I guarantee that the focus though by certain pundits will be entirely on the two people with pro-Hamas slogans that the Metropolitan Police are now looking for.
Because they do that EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN TIME!

I'm half-expecting Susan Hall to go full mask-off racist now that she's lost the London Mayoral election.

As a candidate she liked posts praising Enoch Powell and Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.
She supported Donald Trump and was a believer in 'the big lie' about the 2020 election.
She supported 30p Lee Anderson when he made the statements about Sadiq Khan handing control of London to "his Islamist mates".
She said Jews should be afraid of Sadiq Khan.

I wasn't surprised that George Galloway made his comments about not viewing gay relationships as normal.

What is surprising is the fact Aaron Bastani, who calls himself a journalist, actually was. And that until he heard these remarks, he would have voted for Galloway.

Anyone who has paid any attention to Galloway at all in even just the last five years would know how much of a poisonous lurch to the right he's taken.

I think the only thing funnier than gammon MPs flying off the handle at a hoax about "hot tick buns", is the number of actual news outlets that ran the story as well.

The Independent, Telegraph, Express, Sun, LBC, National, Evening Standard, and various local newspapers across the country ran the "hot tick buns" story as real, with talk of "customer backlash", or "upset to religious groups".

I know standards in journalism are pretty crap these days. But come on...

The fact that the press is waiting in front of the door to 10 Downing Street in the rain for Rishi Sunak to announce the General Election, makes me wonder whatever the Hell happened to that press briefing room that they spent £2.6 million on?

Oh that's right. BoJo the Clown decided he didn't want to do 'White House' style press briefings after he kept getting awkward questions.

There was a positive to Michelle Mone's BBC interview this morning.

The New European were among many in journalism who received legal threats from Mone. In their case, it was specifically this coverage of Mone's profiteering.

Now that Mone has admitted to lying this whole time, The New European has said that they're taking legal advice and are looking to sue her in small claims court for costs.

Whoops.

A fine start by both branches of the Tories to their General Election campaigns.

Rishi Sunak asked a group at a media event if they were looking forward to the football this summer.
Which was met with awkward silence, as it was in Wales.

Keir Starmer meanwhile launched his manifesto in Kent, as he wants to focus on the right-wing talking point of small boats.
Of the two Kent based Labour MPs, only Natalie Elphicke was invited to the launch.
Rosie Duffield was snubbed.

Was this Tory over TERF?

Compare and contrast.

Neil Coyle had complaints upheld against him that he racially abused a journalist, and sexually harassed a member of his staff.
He apologised, and blamed it on alcoholism.
He was suspended for 14 months, but had the whip restored and is standing for Labour again.

Diane Abbott apologised immediately for a poorly thought out letter on racism she sent to The Observer.
She was suspended for 13 months, and did as the NEC asked of her.
But is barred from standing for Labour.

@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot avatar

Mish Rahman, who is on Labour's NEC and an outspoken critic of the way Diane Abbott has been treated by the party, sent an absolutely top response to GBeebies when they asked him to appear on Nigel Farage's show.

Several people attempted to play "internet sleuth", and have suggested the young blonde girl who threw the milkshake over Farage was Emily Hewertson.
Speculation was that it may have actually been staged, as she's the girlfriend of Reform's press officer.

Even the Daily Mail got in touch with her to ask if she did it.

This has however been debunked.
Not only has Hewertson denied it, but she was in Wolverhampton at the time.

Two years ago today, then Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak announced he had written off £4.3 billion of fraudulent Covid-19 relief loans.

It was a tone deaf statement, and a slap in the face to the majority of the country.
As that could have reduced everyone's Income Tax by about £300, right before the National Insurance increase, the energy price cap increase, the cost of living crisis really started to hit, and parts of England got hit with eye-watering increases in Council Tax.

The trouble is that the current government won't stop. Nor will Labour, at least according to Pat McFadden in a recent interview.

The fact that it took the IDF seemingly deliberately targeting an aid convoy to get nations to consider no longer arming Israel, and nothing related to the brutal genocide and targeting of Palestinian civilians, is utterly damning.

BREAKING: Diane Abbott has had the whip restored by the Labour Party.
However according to The Times, she has been banned from standing for them at the General Election.

Senior aides to Keir Starmer reportedly held discussions about restoring the whip before the election, to "allow her to leave politics with dignity".

I would say that it is Starmer lacking any dignity at this point.
I sincerely hope that Diane Abbott announces soon that she'll stand as an independent.

I actually wish Humza Yousaf would go more on the offensive, and point out just how much further to the right Keir Starmer's Labour are than the SNP and Greens in Scotland.

Starmer is seemingly modelling himself off of Tony Blair. Who appointed two of the most far-right Home Secretaries in living memory, in Jack Straw and David Blunkett.

ShredderLivesOn,
@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot avatar

Starmer of course has himself repeatedly tried to appease the far-right.
The worst example being his treating a caller to his LBC phone-in spouting the 'Great Replacement' as having valid concerns on immigration.

So he's not someone I would be willing to trust as leading a progressive government. And that's something that should be laid out to the people of Scotland, as we tend to be more left leaning.

I wouldn't be shocked if Starmer's pitch to England devolves to "Fund the NHS, hang paedos".

Wildcat Haven despite going bust in August and owing Andy Wightman £60,000 in legal costs are back in business.
Only due to UK business laws, they've been allowed to dissolve owing money, and set up again with a similar name.

It was Wildcat Haven Enterprises C.I.C that folded. Wildcat Haven Community Interest Company are under the law a new company, despite the similarity in name, and the same people in charge.
Namely Paul O'Donoghue and his wife.

Why did the BBC platform these known grifters?

ShredderLivesOn,
@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot avatar

@peterbrown Unfortunately it would be useless.

Again the fact is that businesses can wind up not paying what they owe, and then set up again with a similar name and the same people in charge.
And the law is required to treat them as a completely different entity.

I mentioned a developer in Fife, who I'll name. It was Lomond Homes.
The parent company Lomond Group wound them up with an unfinished development in Lochgelly, and owing around £400,000 in unpaid Section 75 agreements.

Polls suggest that tomorrow's London mayoral election is going to be a total cake walk for Sadiq Khan.
YouGov and other organisations have him with a 22 point lead over Susan Hall of the Tories. She has to be the most ridiculous and shameful candidate since they put forward Zac Goldsmith and his dog whistle racism.

The Evening Standard meanwhile has gone with an outlier poll suggesting there's only a 10 point gap between them.

While a lot of attention has been given to the spike in cases of measles, there are other illnesses and health conditions that perhaps warrant more attention from the UK's media.
Namely that we're seeing a huge increase in cases of scurvy and rickets in the UK population.

ShredderLivesOn,
@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot avatar

Namely as Keir Starmer just six months ago was rightly dubbed 'Sir Kid Starver', over his refusal to overturn the two-child cap on welfare.
Something he justified by saying that tough decisions had to be made on the economy.
This was right before he abandoned pledges on an increase in capital gains tax, a wealth tax, a tax on second homes, a mansion tax, and the restoration of the 50p rate of Income Tax for the highest paid.

ShredderLivesOn,
@ShredderLivesOn@mastodon.scot avatar

I also defy any Tory who says "well just walk", to do that themselves. Try walking three hours each way, before and after you spend 11 hours at your workplace. I especially dare you to try that in the freezing pitch black as a woman, with a rumbling stomach due to not being able to eat that morning, and somehow looking after a kid too.
If that doesn't suit you, then don't judge someone who keeps money aside so they can afford to take the bus 30 minutes each way to make that trip.

Andrew Marr on LBC had quite the eye-opening interview with Professor Michael Marmot, who outlined the fact that Universal Credit is paid at a level that guarantees poverty and an inability to afford nutritious food.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKxFZkFQgA

What did bother me though was the condemnation from Keir Starmer on the rise in childhood malnutrition that was played just before the interview with Professor Marmot.
