Hi! We're Lokjo, a world wide online map, build in europe.

We support local shops and do things a bit different:

  • no data collecting.
  • no algorithm.
  • no zoomlevel listing, we show all searched locations at once.
  • corporate locations are stripped from the search list. Fair is fair.

There's 5 languages, we're based on OSM, and have lots of useful functions, read the quick FAQ to make the best use of the map.

    In general this is a great thing, I mean it's helping out people.

    It all depends on the trust of 'who is scanning', and not being used for other things. But comming form the state, I wouldn't be that much suspicious, after all this is not america where corporations rtule and trick people when they can.

    Guys please this is not facebook or twitter where everybody is pointing fingers to other people for being sneaky or bad or whatever.

    What we simply tried to say is that no matter what you do, if you don't bother other people and you're happy with your hetero/cis/trans/whatever lifestyle then just go on with it. :)

    @daridrea He's got a point there, since competition lowers prices. And since most EU companies overprice their product since electric cars are still seen as a 'novelty' and so prices are unnecessarily high.

    Here's a clear difference between 'the regular' and Lokjo.

    Hard to overstate how enshittified and botshitted Google Maps has become. Went looking for my local locksmith on Gmaps. Maps shows 20+ fake locksmith referral scam outlets and doesn't even register the real locksmith, despite it being fully visible in Street View.

    Instead, a red pin on the shop identifies it as a fake locksmith scammer. The real locksmith - which has been there SINCE 1942 (!!) and is a verified merchant - doesn't even show up.

    @gfkdsgn @bougiewonderland @pluralistic @AnnaAnthro Thanks for the heads up! The location wasn't noted on Openstreetmap (our provider of locations) so we just added it, should be on our map automagically updated soon. (you'll see an icon there, the red basket is for 'retail' in general)

    @Mojeek These are great to have, but are all american based (FB, Musk, Amazon etc) it's kinda like the explore news tab in Mastodon. ;)

    Do you have a setting where we can see european tech news? Would be great!

    @Mojeek Ah great to hear it's customizable! I though it was just an 'as is' channel that you connect to.

    Flipboard and Ars are the biggest ones on here I think, but they center mostly on AI and US. But if you search for 'tech' and look under Profiles then there's a lot to find. or maybe ask around on the tech forums if any european ones are around.
