@ericbomb not under 10k on YouTube, as I just checked he has 32k but I think it will fit the bill of being good quality and not typical YouTube like and subscribe/here my midroll AD/ protect with VPN type.

My go to advise for YouTube creators are Totalbiscuit and SuperGreatFriend https://www.twitch.tv/supergreatfrien?sr=a. TB rest his soul is controversial but was a good guy. SGF is also mature US office worker that streams because he likes. So variety of old/new games + good humour.

@Meowmoth I would say feature bloat. If you need social network message service and want fast loads and less mobile traffic/device resources usage then Mastodon is a king with very tried and true nature. Firefish is fork of Misskey so I can tell a bit as Misskey user. If you want everything in one social service then Misskey/Firefish is the one. Build-in rss reader, memos, gallery, pages, channel for chat like experience, plugins, minigames, likes=emoji that convey message, so... Feature bloat.

Is there a way to filter posts that are only in your language?

I follow a few hashtags and occasionally I get posts that aren’t in English on my feed. It’s not that big of deal but it’s be nice if there was a way to ignore posts that aren’t in my set language or a way to auto translate them since I only speak English. I’ve been using the official mastodon app and it can give me...

@TORFdot0 edit profile>preferences>other>filter language and checkmark what language you want. I think it should work regardless of app, but I might be wrong as I use chrome into webapp on my android.

@Roundcat @Lucidlethargy I think it's okay to self promote on other Instances, because... They will never see your post if they don't boost/re-note etc in their local timeline. It will be pain in the ass, but if your content warrants to be seen, why not? You can make 5 posts on different instances or you can make 1 and boost it across 5 instances. Not everything reaches all instances, but some artwork/videos/guides/life lessons can and should be spread, even if you first to make it across.

I wonder what microblogging will look like in Artemis.

Microblogs are an interesting thing. I was never able to get into Twitter or Mastodon because it feels so disorganized and chaotic to me. That said, I think microblog compatibility is low key one of Kbin’s best features with a lot of potential. The problem is that right now it seems like kbin doesn’t really know what to do...

@Xepher @Eggyhead @Varen On one hand Lemmy handles posts directed to community as new threads from Mastodon and others, on other hand Kbin listen to # and will pick up all # mentioned in Magazine bio. So with Kbin you can pick up related to magazine # example game or Gamedev and can be seen and discussed by Kbin users, while Lemmy will only pickup on posts that directly addressed, means no discoverability for new people, you have to know community. Shame you can't make threads on kbin from fedi.

@BearlyEagle As someone who made several accounts on fediverse, I wouldn't praise it like everyone because there is problems that have long way to solve. I would say the experience you can have overall. First here https://fedidb.org/ so you can see what Fediverse consist of. You can interact with any server/service with big restrictions but you can. Like me posting from Mastodon to Kbin. Just know that you can always bail choose place you like or leave for another. Stick to where you like.

Second depending on Instances Federation/defederation but you can always talk to people from Instances you left, so there is no shame to go to other place because you found some friends beforehand. You can still interact with them from new place, but I read some stories where people had problems due friends being on different instances so it's not all rosy... It's better than what Reddit does though https://816am.ddns.net/post/6468 . You can setup your own fediverse server for yourself and friends!

So depending on your needs and what you can afford, you can join any service there are like Mastodon if you want raw twitter with # only search, Misskey if you want fun with Emoji and other feature bloat, Kbin and Lemmy for forum experience, Hubzilla for site constructor, there is forks for Masto,Misskey there is Akkoma, Pleroma... There is so much to explore, so finding best place can be hard that would have things you are interested and on service you like, but this is why fediverse get praise

@MonsieurHedge @Hank Can't say what boost does for Lemmy, For kbin unless we get home timeline only if you look at user profile it means also nothing, for Mastodon by boosting I show everyone who follow me your post, for Misskey I not only show your post by boosting but also upvote's are emoji and I can make short answer to you post without commenting. I won't comment on + and - of the platforms, just want to point out it's not as simple as upvote especially if you get Fediverse followers.

@JackGreenEarth Yeah, I saw message like on day 20 and they have memo that "download link works 7 days, please reply if you can't download" well I replied once, twice, trice and send email to support. Only after I send email I got working link. So don't bother with Reddit, direct email will go through other channels. And you are forced to login on reddit to download.

The only real reddit drama that I personally was invested was r/animemes with Trap ban, so it's easy to ignore chat, follows, cryptocurency, Reddit becoming close sourced, Avatars (I set up one and change it 1 time when free was given and like ehh it's gamer thingy lookalike will use it).
I got my GPDR or how it called request, but didn't login till day 20 and you have 7 days to download and 30 to request link... well I requested link 3 times and still error.

@orcrist @lvxferre There is narrowly targeted forums, case in point Totalbiscuits dedicated one. Problem lies with first rest in peace a good videogame critic. Second same as paid checkmark on Twitter. Why would you pay for service you can't trust? There is subset of people who don't make research and pay for security, but it's mentality of people who pay for confidence. Those same people who will leave Twitter and go Misskey. They will pay to support Misskey rather than to pay for a checkmark.

How are Lemmy instances able to even see microblog posts ? Afaik Lemmy doesn't have microblogging feature , interaction between Lemmy and more microblog oriented parts of the fediverse should be more limited right ? Unless it was something they recently added , or a 3rd party app that adds it ig ?

Out of curiosity, our Magazine owner tested https://kbin.social/m/arknights/p/911556 . Which is why guide to post to Lemmy from mastodon works , while for Kbin it's sorted to Microblog.

@blissfulmun Yeap but that what man do, what Children think that their Idea is so cool they will hold on to it and won't think twice about what would other think. BTW would recommend to read comments here https://kbin.social/m/technology@lemmy.world/t/241862/X-com-now-points-to-https-twitter-com really interesting tidbits that average people didn't knew because they were not in it. x.com pointed to paypal back in 2000..... ? I didn't know but commenters did.

@ikka Don't know what exactly Rss feed grabs, but you can have RSS feed of kbin.social https://kbin.social/rss . For magazine https://kbin.social/rss?magazine=arknights . Try it out, might work until we get better options.
