Idea for a sport:

Instead of moving really quickly, kicking or hitting or throwing a ball or something really accurately, or outwitting people, how about this?

You have to inflict enough brain trauma on your opponent to render them unable to stay on their feet.

Ubuntu Desktopโ€™s 24.10 Dev Cycle - The Roadmap

"Our plan is to grow the Ubuntu Desktop team by at least another 50% over the next year and we are opening a range of positions across all levels of seniority in the coming weeks. At Canonical we think the future is bright for the Linux desktop and if you have the passion and skills to be at the cutting edge of performance, security, immutability and accessibility then we want to hear from you."

Your regular reminder that all cryptocurrencies are a pyramid scheme scam, and that anyone encouraging others to get involved is doing so because they need new people to come in at the bottom to keep the whole pyramid propped up.

Listening to episode 281 of @LateNightLinux , is a composable distro the same as an immutable one or what is this

JoeRess,

@joel @LateNightLinux pretty much. We talked a lot more about them here if you want to learn more:

2.5 Admins 194: Thundering Mastodon

Mastodonโ€™s link previews are causing downtime for web servers without properly configured caching, locking down DNS inside Windows networks, why using write-once backup media is a bad idea, and increasing the performance of a Microsoft SQL Server with SSDs and ZFS.

JoeRess,
@JoeRess@fosstodon.org avatar

@jaibreadcat @25admins a non-technical person who wants a garden blog isn't going to host it on a VPS. They'd host it on something like WordPress.com. Your example isn't a very good one.

Installing Windows on the MacBook Air so that itโ€™s hopefully no longer a $1000+ paper weight and maybe can be a machine for OBS and other streaming software and maybe Live2D and stuff

JoeRess,
@JoeRess@fosstodon.org avatar

@danirabbit I've found intel Macs generally run Linux pretty well so that might be worth considering (unless you want a Windows installation around).

JoeRess,
@JoeRess@fosstodon.org avatar

@danirabbit ah right.

Whenever I, or someone else, posts a link to this blog on Mastodon, it DDoS's me and brings the site down for a couple minutes.

JoeRess,

@kev are you doing any caching in Kirby?

JoeRess,

@kev thanks for the info. I'm concerned about my WordPress sites so hopefully this will get sorted soon.

Ubuntu 24.04 is out and we have mixed feelings about it. Plus bad news for RISC-V, a new Linux distro might control safety systems in cars, a classic media player is back from the dead, and more. With guest host @jimsalter from @25admins.

Modern life is undeniably far from ideal. But...

Tonight I caught up with a friend in California on the "phone" (voice only via the Internet). He was driving home from work and was connected wirelessly. The latency was pretty bad (maybe just under a second) but it was still great.

For fun I've just done some maths and (I think) if we were somehow (magically) able to shout at each other loud enough, the latency would be around 7 hours (each way).

Maybe modern life isn't all bad? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

@oac @popey @darkling well I upgraded and it only booted sometimes and the brightness buttons broke so I'm back on 22.04 so it's not all rosy.
