I've owned a lot of USB sticks over the years and the Sandisk Extreme 3.0 ones are by far the best in my experience. But they are old, discontinued, and their "successors" are slow and shit.

These won't last forever so I need to think about what to replace them with. What do people recommend these days?

JoeRess,
@JoeRess@fosstodon.org avatar

@joel I have one but it's not a fast. :/

JoeRess,

@HankB the Extreme Pro is one of the "successors" I mentioned. Fine, but not as good as the old 3.0 version I have.

Oh no. What a terrible shame that the Bitcoin price is tanking.

Everyone said get a Brother printer so I bought a 3-in-1 scanner and printer. There seems to be something wrong with it though. I plugged it into a Linux laptop, opened a document, pressed print, selected the printer, and it printed. Then I opened simple-scan, pressed scan, and it scanned.

This isn't how printers and scanners are supposed to work. Where do I install the drivers that don't work properly etc? This was no fun. I demand a refund.

I realize none of you care but I just threw a double triple 20 and I'm very stoked.

@rbowen after 6 months of trying I finally did this the other day. Keep going. You can do it!

It would be really great if the BBC didn't platform far right populists.

When I first found out that Stanley (the knife and other tools company) was fashionable among young people I was pretty surprised. We're talking socks, water bottles etc. But then I remembered that Caterpillar (the company who makes heavy machinery like diggers) boots were fashionable for a while about 30 years ago.

Young people are funny.

I can't do quote posts so a screenshot will have to do. But so much this. LNL could have banked so much money from VPN providers but at what cost? The audience understands this stuff.

We do happily advertise one VPN solution on the shows (which I won't name here) because they don't ask us to tell lies and it's just not the same thing at all really. It's just a really easy way to implement Wireguard.

I don't really blame non-tech YouTube people for not understanding this, but tech channels? 😬

@wsha don't make me listen to those episodes again!

It sometimes baffles me how prominent charming people like SBF manage to con people into buying into the crypto scam, but then I remember that around half of Americans voted for Trump twice. 🤷‍♂️

I see Bitcoin is close to surpassing its all time dollar value. A gentle reminder that Bitcoin and all crypto is a pyramid scheme scam, and you should remind your less techy friends and family of that before they get sucked in.

@oemb1905 I have always been skeptical but NFTs in 2020 woke me up to the reality that it was all a straight up scam.

I've been using Nextcloud News as an RSS aggregator, which I then view using NewsFlash on Linux and the Nextcloud News app on Android. The Android app handles podcasts great, you can stream or download directly from the app, and change the playback speed.

Two problems:

  1. NewsFlash doesn't support podcasts, so when you click the music icon, it just opens the podcast as an mp3 file in a browser.
  2. Recently, Nextcloud News has stopped picking up new episodes of @LateNightLinux :(

@oac @LateNightLinux most unfortunate. Do let me know if it turns out to be an issue with the feed and I'll see what I can do.
