Is 80 years really long enough for Europeans to forget how voting for nazis ends? The current political situation is a demonstration of a profound failure of education over decades.
What's the cheapest way to ship a laptop from the USA to the UK? My friend in California has a T470s (ThinkPad) that he's willing to give me but from what I've been able to find online, it will end up costing more than the laptop is worth to send it over here. Especially as and when customs charge me an arm and a leg to import it.
For reference they are around £80/$100 on ebay in the UK.
"hacker mode" is what I am hearing, and I love it :)
Incidentally, I am using a travel router to connect an ethernet-only optiplex to the network. Well I say "travel" router, it hasn't actually travelled anywhere since being assigned a permanent role!
Android is like that one friend who you know is just useless and pisses you off more often than you should put up with, but ultimately answers the phone when your toilet is leaking uncontrollably and talks you through the worst possible dirty hack of a solution that will do for tonight and stop everyone shouting at you long enough to get a few hours of sleep.
iOS is that friend who hooks you up with a "sweet job" working for a tyrant that pays incredibly, but will drive you into an early grave.
Often late at night I'll send myself notes to remind future me of ideas for episodes and topics etc. I've just sent myself this and it's going to take some time to process it. Can I really bring myself to do something so monstrous? Tune in soon to find out!
@JoeRess …remember…this is what a percentage of the population wants. This is only a warning to about half. There is a non-zero percent of the population of the UK that would be amicable to the idea too. More than a few likely voted for Brexit because they hated their neighbors…
I now find myself in agreement with @felimwhiteley. We are going to look back on this period in a few years and generative AI will be considered in the same light as blockchain and crypto are now.
Yes, this is an exciting chance to get rid of the tories. Let's not get complacent, though. It's not enough to just vote tactically. We need to talk to our friends and family members and anyone who will listen about how important it is to make Starmer the Prime Minister.
He might not be your first choice for the job, but it's who we have. The alternative is too horrendous to imagine.
So let's do this. Let's make sure we get this job done.
@JoeRess meanwhile, here in the Netherlands (6 months after the elections) we've yet to know who will be our prime minister, because they've opted for an extraparlementair government ✌️😏
Your regular reminder that all cryptocurrencies are a pyramid scheme scam, and that anyone encouraging others to get involved is doing so because they need new people to come in at the bottom to keep the whole pyramid propped up.
@JoeRess Almost all cryptocurrencies normies get exposed to are a scam. There are legitimate ones, but you need the knowledge to distinguish them. Banks "scam" you quite often too, but they do it legally.
Tonight I caught up with a friend in California on the "phone" (voice only via the Internet). He was driving home from work and was connected wirelessly. The latency was pretty bad (maybe just under a second) but it was still great.
For fun I've just done some maths and (I think) if we were somehow (magically) able to shout at each other loud enough, the latency would be around 7 hours (each way).
