Really hate tech sometimes. Was listening to a tune I've been working on for the past couple of weeks yesterday & suddenly the speakers cut out. After doing a number tests rearranging cables I've determined that outputs 1 & 2 on the Apogee Symphony are no longer functional. Have to take it in now for a warranty repair, which is likely to take weeks. Really frustrated, & thinking that after all the issues I've had the past year I've chosen the wrong hobby. #gearsquad#musicproduction#recording

A lead guitarist I did a couple of collaborations with back when I first started back into music highly recommend this book for me. I made it through a couple of chapters then got sucked into a major project at work and completely forgot about it. The title might be a bit misleading and I’m pretty sure it will have what you’re looking for.
@Theblueone@ambergrey
As I said I only worked my way through the first couple of chapters before getting sidetracked by my job. It’s definitely an older book so I’m sure there are newer ones that will cover the same ground much better.
Well we had some complications and Friedrich won’t be usable for a while, but that’s ok! It’s going to work out, just have to wait a bit. Writing a new song I’m very excited about. Making progress on goals and feeling less cloudy on everything. Want to start an organizing/archive project to get all of my projects set up in my files where they are easily findable and accessible before they become too much of a knot haha. Nimona still amazing, need to try out Elixirs + you all’s other suggestions!
@ambergrey
I'm doing okay, off to a bit of a slow start because I decided to buy myself a PlayStation 5 and Medievil for Christmas. I get lost in that quite a bit. 🤣
But am trying hard to take better care of myself this year by exercising and eating right. Musically I am thinking of a return to my EDM days by working more with loops and samples. Have a couple snippets on the go, and will revisit some of the bigger pieces I did the last 5 years too. The less I try singing the better I think. 🤔
why why why is all modern #MixingDesks of a reasonable size equipped with internal fx and usb crappy crap? does nobody understands the need of an old grumpy #analog#dub#mixing#artist !!
@doktorlond
You probably need to look for a good vintage analog board. I chose my Allen & Heath board because it was as close to analog as I could get. It does have a single USB input/output but I totally ignore it and have no intention of ever using it. Every channel is 100% analog.
@wpgne
It’s at one of the fish processing plants in Steveston of the Fraser River. The damaged wall mural was right next to Long & McQuade on 4th Avenue in Vancouver, which is where we rented any of the equipment we needed while recording at Ocean Sound or Mushroom Studios which were within walking distance.
@wpgne
I have friends and family there, but I’m now living north of there on Vancouver Island in Campbell River. I got the opportunity to meet so many of those groups when I was working in those studios back in the 80’s. It was a great experience.
Somehow I feel like this song really epitomizes 2023 for me. So many times it felt like "you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave" was exactly what I was going through. Looking forward to a much better 2024, happy new year everyone. Really looking forward to some more great discussions this year.
I can’t wait for you all to meet a very special new music companion….he won’t emerge until after Santa comes. But I will tell you this. His name is Friedrich :blobcatcoffee:
If today was your last day at work, and they just said, "Hey Man, you've been a great employee, just pick something off the wall to take with you", which guitar out of the whole store, would you pick? What is it?" https://youtube.com/shorts/zzSy-cqaZgc#Guitars#FreeGuitar

Wouldn’t want to make a choice without being able to see and play the other options. If there’s a real 1959 Gibson Les Paul then that would be my choice.
I’ve been working on a song in C minor - what the hell was I thinking? Three flats and no open strings for #guitar. I was studying B Dorian - that’s the Wicked Game key - but then went up a half step and played Ab / Cm as an opening chord and it sounded so cool. The other chords flowed from there - flats and all, and in between the usual fret markers. But you gotta dance with the one that brung ya. It’s going to be a cool track. #music#songwriting

Wasn’t as fond of Tea For One, but then as a fan the Presence album was a huge disappointment. I love the songs now, but at the time it was like they’d lost their way a bit. After stuff like Black Dog and Kashmir, a song like Royal Orleans was like wtf???
@boxspring@NigelTufnel
I followed The Yardbirds from the time Jimmy Page joined them, and then went straight into Zeppelin when they started. I bought the 1st album the day it was released, rushed home & was absolutely blown away by Good Times Bad Times and the rest of the album. As a fan that followed all the way through it just wasn't the same after Physical Graffiti.

Shut Up & Play is a great resource for learning songs. He really gets into the songs and shows what I think is the correct way to play them. He’s also really good at breaking down all the parts.
Another song that Page has about 6 beautifully blended guitar parts going on in is Achilles Last Stand. There was a video showing all the parts but I can’t find it now. Ten Years Gone is another great example.

Nope, that’s his 1959 Danelectro guitar. He uses it live for a lot of his “acoustic” songs like Black Mountain Side. He also uses it for Kashmir. The big difference with it is that it uses lipstick pickups which have a very unique sound.
