Been working on a cover of Bryan Adams song Run To You and have been struggling a lot with the guitar sound. All of the Les Paul’s have way too much low end & sound really muddy. The amount of EQ required to “fix” this is ridiculous. The Strat actually works really well. So the takeaway is that a $150 Squier works better here than a $6000 Gibson.
@ambergrey
It’s funny because we were just discussing cheap vs expensive guitars a couple weeks ago. At the time I said every guitar has its place, and I’ve used my Squier before for a Rolling Stones cover (Brown Sugar). However, I’m thinking I should probably invest in a better Fender.
For the last couple of days my 4 year old iPhone 11 has been acting weird (as if I hadn’t had enough tech issues already this week). Basically the touch interface was breaking, intermittently scrolling, zooming & tapping when I wasn’t close to touching it. Took it into an Apple authorized repair centre today, and a couple hours later it’s fixed. And now it’s apparent this has been happening for a while. The touch response is incredibly faster & smoother. #apple#iphone#touchscreen#repair

Glad you’ve had a good day. Mine has been okay, actually did a bit of recording. Just enough to get the levels tweaked nicely for my guitar. Also been experimenting with how to achieve optimal levels for the takes and monitoring. Having a fully functioning studio has been a load of fun. Get a great nights sleep and have a wonderful day tomorrow.
Well, go figure. I’m now totally perplexed. Powered the system up this morning, and it works. Nothing different from yesterday when it wasn’t working, just an 18 hour power down.
So what’s my take away here? Firstly, I’ve lost all faith in the Presonus interface. Secondly, I’ve bought myself some extra time to explore alternatives, but an alternative will have to be found. Thirdly, I need to make hay while the sun is shining.
@SusanHR
😂
I tried turning the system on & off several times. I switched cable ports, power outlets, I did a little dance, I pulled out my highly effective tech support voodoo doll, the whole nine yards.
I even attempted Moss' advice about "have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot" but sadly to no avail.
😂
Frustrated beyond belief right now. When I shut down the studio last night everything was working, and I had everything set to start recording this morning. Power up this morning and … nothing. Figured pretty quickly it was an output issue with the Presonus Quantum 4848. Pulled it all apart and tested every cable. Cables are fine. Inputs on the Quantum working. Outputs say they work but nothing at the mixer. What a waste of time & money. Argh!!! #Presonus#Quantum#broken#frustration
@ambergrey
It’s really confusing that it’s suddenly working again today. On the Presonus forums someone else was saying they had the same issue. And then it suddenly worked again. I’ve totally lost faith in the interface, I can’t have this happening randomly. So a new interface is definitely on my wish list.
@elsemusic@ambergrey
Weird thing was that the LED’s for input & output on the Quantum would light up, indicating that signal was making it from the computer to the interface through the Thunderbolt cable. I checked each of the 6 DB25 connectors as well, and all 48 cables were working. So the “issue”
was occurring inside the interface, somewhere between the thunderbolt arriving and DB25 connectors heading out. 🤷🏻♂️
It’s been a year since I collapsed, and re structured my life to start over. I’ve had huge leaps of recovery and many steps backward. Currently I’m struggling. It’s mainly daily maintenance that exhausts me. I can never get to a place where I feel at ease and like things are handled. There are so many life tasks that are behind, and I can’t seem to be fast and strong enough to get them to a good place so I can relax. I’m really tired.

Are humbuckers darker than single coils because the wire in the coils is longer, and the higher frequency components of the tone fluctuate fast enough to to self-cancel?
Google says light goes 186 miles in a millisecond, so I don't know.
But I like the idea of shorter total wire length is like a higher sampling rate.
@eyesquash
It’s 186,000 miles per second actually, not 1000 times faster than that.
The flow of electrons through a wire is variable, depending on the resistance of the material it’s moving through.
I’m not sure that the length of the wire would have anything to do with the sampling rate since that’s a digital concept, and everything within the guitar would still be in the analog realm.
Everyone, please meet Nimona!!!!! She is 7.3 pounds. Balances on my leg perfectly without assistance, and naturally angles the neck up which encourages a straight wrist while I’m sitting down. She is in the satin burgundy mist finish. A Charvel Pro-Mod DK 24 HH 2 PT electric guitar. She has Seymour Duncan pickups and the tone versatility so far blows me away. The neck is unbelievable. :blobaww: :BlobhajTinyHeart: 💖💕 #guitar#charvel#pink#BurgundyMist

Each guitar is different based more on the luthiers construction or reworking. From right to left my 2007 Gibson Custom Shop ‘59 ($6000), my 2015 Carparelli’59 ($2500) and my 2013ish Fender Squier ($150). The Gibson is by far & away the best. But the Carparelli is darn close. I personally did a lot of work on the Fender & it’s great now too. Each is suitable in different situations.

Tone is something that can always be altered, for example by using different strings or changing the electronics. To me the feel & playability are critical. Followed by appearance. If the guitar feels good and plays well then you shouldn’t be afraid of digging right in and modifying it extensively to improve its other attributes. No different than some people with their cars. 🤔🙄😬😂
The funniest thing about threads so far is that anyone who has been in software for a while can immediately see what happened here: they reduced scope to launch an early milestone.
There's a lot that feels very incomplete. Basic functionality missing, no web UI. The "threads" icon on web just switches between dark mode and light mode.
It's very obvious that this is unpolished, alpha-level stuff that got launched. No AP support, that's "coming soon".
About 50% of the way through my studio reorganization now. The mixer is totally tested & fully operational, including every connected cable. Now working through all the outboard gear & cables, starting with my mics.
Haven’t posted for a while now, mainly because I’m so bummed out at the moment because I can’t do much studio work. Three weeks ago I took a pretty serious fall off a curb and sprained my wrist. A week ago it was starting to feel a lot better, so I pulled out my guitar and played for a few hours. Next day I was in agony, more pain than when I first fell. Going for physio Friday so hopefully I can get going again soon.
@turley
Ouch ouch ouch. I’ve been wearing the brace religiously for the past three days and it’s making a huge difference. Just need to stay strong and not give into my desire to pick up a guitar for the moment. Darn, addictions are hard. 😂
Decided to take the plunge & purchase an HP laptop running Windows 11. Copied some old programs I had saved on my Mac to a thumb drive to install on the PC. And now I’m recalling why I detest Windows so much. It wiped the permissions on my thumb drive making it completely unusable on my Mac. I’m beyond frustrated. #macos#windows#frustration#regrets
