My problem with liberal anticommunist historians is that if anything they are not critical enough [of the] Stalinist regime. They reduce it to bad people who wanted money, power, whatever. (...) Because the horror of Communism, Stalinism, is not that bad people do bad things — they always do. It’s that good people do horrible things thinking they are doing something great.

Listening to an interview with #Zizek and he rightly points out how confused our society is when it comes to things we label "possible" vs "impossible".

Singularity or colonizing Mars in our collective imagination is possible, while taxing the rich or UBI is impossible.

Ways to fight climate change.

Easy:
Buy less stuff.
Re-use more stuff.
Fix broken stuff.
Burn less stuff.
Eat local stuff.

Feel free to add to the list.

Non ideological answers only.

@mike You had me until the last sentence. A reading of some #Zizek is in order. 😂

Let me try anyway...

  • Don't eat meat.

Hmm, that's a #vegan ideology...

What about:

  • Don't use a car.

That's #banCars ideology.

  • Don't fly?

That's just pure #JustStopOil ideology.

I tried, but hey, "buy less stuff" is some heavy #antiCapitalism and #antiConsumerism ideology right there.

So I am a week into my studies, through Zizek's lens. All good. I think Zizek's of looking at Hegel through the Lacanian lens is seductive. That said, where I find the lens of Zizek lacking, and I now wish he'd not talk about these 2(3) things any more are:

  1. (https://thephilosophicalsalon.com/why-lacan-is-not-a-buddhist-a-belated-reply-to-my-critics/)
-the boy criticizes Buddhism like people criticize . All or nothing, for the most part.

My atheism has never felt the same as or , whom we adore, and Zizek sneers. Slipping through the profound safety net religion and a transcendent, all powerful, personal god into the of nothing was terrifying, it was my first experience of the "." This is it. This is all there is. The problem is it appears Zizek commits the of (if we understand it correctly). Clearly he knows it is , even if profound from a Hegelian , we get it we really do, but it is not real. The is real, and the fiction caused the event, but the fiction is still fiction. There is no God, IOP, that became an atheist. The Zizek emphasizes is powerful, the changing of the cosmos when on the cross questions Gods love. Good story and that is all.
