🆕 blog! “Thoughts on building an NFC reader for the Framework laptop”
The Framework laptop has several little slots which can be used be used to expand the functionality of the laptop. They convert the internal USB-C ports into a different sort of port. For example, Framework sells an official HDMI card and Ethernet card: But the community have bu…
You can never have too many USB-C ports, right? It's rubbish having a cheap laptop with only a single USB-C port. So, the good folks at Mokin have sent me a gadget which turns your single and lonely USB-C port into FIVE USB-C ports. Along the side you get 4 USB-C 3.1 port…

I've been looking for this rare beast for ages - a hub which has multiple USB-C outputs! You see it is a truth, universally acknowledged, that computers don't have enough ports on them. And laptops? Pah! A couple of USB-C if you're lucky, and one of them has to be us…
The possibility of #usb-c coming to the new #iPhone along with some IMO very questionable design decisions in the #Android world have me considering for the first time in my life to get an iPhone for myself. 🤔
Then I remember that the #AppleWatch is the only #smartwatch option on iOS and there’s absolutely no way I’m going to strap a rectangle to my wrist. 😅 I really wish there was a circular one…
Where oh where are you USB drive?
Where are you hiding, are you even alive?
I know you're hiding somewhere,
Maybe under my chair?
Did you go through the wash in a pocket?
I swear, you must have left for the moon on a rocket!
At the same time Apple argued against a regulatory requirement for USB-C phones, saying it would produce piles of e-waste from obsolete products, the company was shipping products like this shattering, fraying Lighting cable for us to use for a few months before shuffling it off to the landfill. #Apple#EWaste#Lightning#Cable#USB
🆕 blog! “Wanted! A USB-C OTG single button keyboard”
I'm writing this post in the hope someone will rip off my idea and start selling it on Ali Express. Many years ago, I got a "Pressy". It was a little dongle which fitted into your phone's headphone jack. It had a single button on the top. It came with an app so when you […]
Supertoys last all summer long! But batteries do not. The last set of rechargeable batteries I had leaked everywhere, and I could never find the right charging lead for the gizmo which pumped power into them. So let's cut out the middle-man and plug a USB-C cable straight into our batteries! What? These were the […]

All USB-C cables are equal. But some, as the saying goes, are more equal than others. This little gadget from Plugable is a fantastic bit of kit. Plug your USB-C power supply into one end of the gadget, plug the gadget in to your laptop, phone, or any other USB-C device. Watch t…
Piping /dev/urandom into the USB HID keyboard stream[1] of a Windows 11 host logon screen makes for some funny videos.
Semi-related, you can do silly things with the "Microsoft OS Descriptor" USB parameters (properties get mapped to registry keys/values), but it looks generally safe, since not much happens automatically with those properties, especially outside of the Explorer view for Mass Storage/MTP/PTP devices.
Pi Zero W 2 in OTG mode, setup as a composite device via ConfigFS, and literally mashing random bytes into /dev/hidg0
The good folk at ChubbyCable have sent me a trio of gorgeous USB-C cables to review. If, like me, your work colleagues always "borrow" your cables never to be seen again - these are a godsend. They're available in a range of colours - you can even design your own. You'll never have to say […]
Ist uhubctl eigentlich die beste Variante, um die USB-Ports beim Raspberry Pi zu deaktivieren? Bspw. um etwas Strom zu sparen. Über die config.txt geht es scheinbar nicht.
I brought donated wireless keyboards and a mouse to #Staples for ewaste. Sad. Employees loose the little wireless #usb thingies that communicate with keyboards. Without these, the keyboards don’t connect. I tried to figure out a solution but it doesn’t exist. Every keyboard (obviously) has its own key. So perfectly fine keyboards went to waste. Also, figuring out which waste goes where is a chore in #ottawa. Staples doesn’t take all ewaste. Cartridges yes, thermostats no #recyclingheadaches
