Friends. I’m looking for work. I’m a UX designer/researcher, information architect, and UI designer/developer. I bring over two decades of experience to the table. I’m also an accessibility/usability expert.
If you have a need I’d love to talk with you. If you know folks, I’d love a boost. Thank you! 🙌🏻
Every hashtag on every post on every platform should ALWAYS be pascal case (a.k.a. camel case). I made this to illustrate how screenreaders read hashtags depending on whether they are lowercase or pascal case.
It’s a small thing that all of us can do to build a more inclusive, accessible internet for all. Please take the time to use pascal case.
“These Inclusive Design Principles are about putting people first. It's about designing for the needs of people with permanent, temporary, situational, or changing disabilities — all of us really.”
I am concerned. Not about Large Language Models (LLM)s doing me out of a job, but about the people who make money out of them not making their User Interfaces (UI)s accessible.
These are notes that I wrote during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. I've published them a few years later. By now, you're probably sick and tired of shoving a swab up your nose and / or down your throat. You've grown blasé about the little medical marvel as it reacts to whatever antibodies are […]
It's 2024. If you're still designing websites or email like you would design an 8.5x11" promotional hand-out on a sheet of paper, you really haven't been paying attention to how people use the internet over the past decade.
Understanding What #Drupal Editors and Authors Need
By Megh Plunkett and @ckrina
To validate changes to Drupal’s administration menus and user interface, we employed various types of #usability testing, we ran card sorting exercises, a survey, and several rounds of user testing. #UX
Bloody hell: don’t disable the copy and paste functionality in electronic input forms, dear software developers and managers! Doing so only makes it more difficult for people to enter their information. Do you want to frustrate people to the point of giving up? Scare them away? No? Then allow copy and paste. #usability#accessibility#ux
I've created a #browser#extension that allows one to (1) select which browser extensions to disable and (2) which sites to disable the extensions on.
Purpose is two-fold:
(use at your own risk please)
#Security: You can visit banking sites, etc. without needing to manually disable browser extensions.
#Usability: On some sites certain functionality isn't helpful, for example, I don't want highlighting extensions to operate on #Perlego pages, Perlego has built-in highlighting.
It’s been way too long (almost 2 years!), but I finally got around to finishing that draft in my drafts folder for the second article in my “screen readers and drag and drop” series: https://www.darins.page/articles/screen-readers-drag-drop-2
This one deals with picking up and putting down draggable items. It’s very long, so skip to the conclusion if you just want the summary.
I mean there are many basic iCal implementations and more project management tools that I can count.
But an app, where I can do stuff like ... remind me to take my meds 1h after my alarm goes off ... I want to meet with these 4 friends, can you find a date for us?
"Man eh, det is doch nich Mauve Du Depp, det is Magenta. Der Mauve is da rechts der neben dem Flieder."
When I got in this elevator alone I pressed the 3. There was no depression so I realized it wasn’t the button. The button is the silver circle adjacent to it.
I laughed at myself. Then, when I got in with my wife to go back down, she pressed the 1. Looked at it for a moment, then realized she made a mistake. Same as me.
Sometimes a client asks me a question and I'm a little stunned by their mental model of the world. A few weeks ago, we were discussing the need for better cybersecurity in their architecture. We spoke about several aspects of security, then they asked an outstanding question. "What should I buy to be secure?" It […]
