Plus d'un milliard d'utilisateurs (essentiellement d'Asie) mais quand même 22 millions de francophones. Pas besoin d'avoir d'abonnés pour que nos vidéos y soient vues des milliers de fois. Il suffit de les publier dessus (évitez l'achat de vues, ça semble impacter les vues organiques dans le mauvais sens et ça coûte une blinde).
#Twitter (quoi que j'en pense) reste le réseau de base pour construire un réseau.
I think #Mastodon may be the only social media I allow on my #grapheneos phone because it doesn’t collect any data. Apple Music for music as it seems to have the least data issues, for when I’m not using my iPod classic as I am still fixing it. I think when I get the new #iphone it too will only have Mastodon, and #YouTube and such. Its funny to see how people really believe the #bluesky hype. Most people I know who are really into it don’t know much about technology I am noticing. Because anyone into tech and social media starts seeing cracks with their approaches. #fediverse#mastodon
I know a lot of people (including me) are a little sick of all the whole recent social media upheaval talk (Twitter, Bluesky, Threads, etc). But this long read by Eugene Wei (who has also written extensively about TikTok) is fascinating and thorough. (He doesn't talk about or mention the fediverse here, really, though.)
As I recently wrote about as well, Twitter at its peak (despite the toxicity it had even before Musk) was cool and wild, and losing it is weird. Even just a couple years ago it had a whole different feel to how it is now, in stark contrast to Instagram or anything else.
The quote in the first attached image he gives from Almost Famous and his explanations really sums up that feeling. The second image, describing time-biased vs. space-biased media is ALSO fascinating.
This is a fascinating piece of technology from #Ellipal which is a BIP39 offline seed generator for 12-24 words. Which has always been a point of question I had with many #cryptocurrency wallets and I think offline generation is best especially for phone wallets. Threads, by fully centering algorithmically chosen content and making blocking slightly more of a hassle, has committed to rewarding heavy virality, and facilitating celebrity (both existing and attempted).
And it's tilted towards the most popular users of Instagram. Who may not be well practiced at a short-text medium, but they'll learn fast.
What kind of atmosphere do you THINK it'll have in a month or two?
@CultureDesk There's a #cyberpunk vibe to it; the notion that "stars", will be once again tied to a studio system, and upon signing the Contract, they realize that they've agreed to be filmed, continually, as they age, but that the images used for any film they are in may be drawn from any point along their life, algorithmically enhanced to suit the whims of the Director, the Studio, or :shudder: Test Audiences.

This piece by @taylorlorenz which discusses how TikTok has supplanted Twitter as the "town square" is excellent and does an excellent job contextualizing. I do wish, though, that they'd spend more time here and see what it's really like. So many journalists are ignoring and dismissing Masto. Talking to people is the key here.

Oof, after 1 day of muting irritating blue ticks on #Threads, and liking relevant accounts I thought I got a reasonable feed.
It is now replaced by influenza #TikTok type girls posing.
I hate that their algo engagement and region based, and the audience for the app skews young. So young girls get upvoted by horny people. I'll do another round of muting and see how it goes. At this rate I'm just gonna have to ignore the feed and just #WriteOnly.
Sometimes it's very tiring to write something on a social network to draw attention to your work and Erra: Exordium game... Two more social networks were added to this list in a few days. Let me remind you, I am a programmer, not a marketer

Much of what I do relates to #marketing in one way or the other. And even though I'm used to it, I find it to be a bit much at times. So yeah, I can relate. Still, I wouldn't say it's to late to shift your focus if you feel there's some gains to be had on #TikTok.
This my friends this right here is why I say it isn’t a good idea to jump the gun and defederate with #Threads there are tons of people WHO WANT TO BE EDUCATED ON THE #Fediverse. Most people simply don’t know where to start, we could guide them and be their Shepards for this confused flock. People want to control their own data they just don’t know how or where to start. You can can shun me for using #tiktok but I got the word out about #Mastodon and more. This happened on Threads! #meta
I think I am suffering from social media platform choice fatigue. It is a real thing, I am sure of it! I find it hard to believe. Has it really only been 14 years since I joined Twitter for me and then Facebook for my family? How much fun it was back then to make new friends all over the world! Many of these first connections are now good online friends. Many of us have bounced around to the next new option such as G+ and then back over to Facebook followed by Instagram. Only then for some to start over again on TikTok or Tumbler or… so many choices! We should have learned with MySpace or the weirdness of Pinterest that social platforms were to collect potential buyers for advertisers. We are the product, the consumer and the live bodies in algorithmic marketing funnels. (1-7) continues in comments…
I hate to add to the #Threads discourse but I'm realizing why many users will LIKE the app not even having a Followers Only option.
If you use #TikTok, you know how the majority of users use the For You section. People literally joke about hoping the algorithm brings them back for follow-up videos. They'd rather potentially risk missing content they enjoy than have the inconvenience of finding it later.
Wattpad is more popular than A03 with younger generations for similar reasons. It's simply less work, you're less likely to see something you don't like, etc.
Think about the metaphor in this post alone. Hello Fresh and services like it do this EXACT thing. People LITERALLY pay for someone to choose what they eat for them.
It's because people, especially younger people, feel overwhelmed, hopeless, and all-around miserable. They want their dopamine hits and they don't want to add to their workload to get them.
It's sad, but completely understandable with that context. I'm sorry, but #ThreadsApp could very well be extremely successful in its current form and we need to start accepting what that means for our society and fight back.
