I might have posted about this already, but it looks like a cat must have landed on my laptop pretty hard when it was closed one day, because now some parts of the screen are brighter than others.
It's an old lappie, but I've come to love it (it was also a gift) so I am going to try to replace the screen. The videos make it look easy.

My #ThinkPad A475 has the touchpad/touchpoint device on the PS/2 bus, and whenever the battery dies, my touchpad is no longer recognized in Linux - ANY Linux.
How do I wake up the PS/2 bus in Linux and get my touchpad back?
The only remedy thus far has been to boot to a Windows install ISO.
Running #plan9front in my #thinkpad x280 for this entire year is going to be distractionless and super productive workstation. I dinnae miss the browser at all. Was finally able to get around to setting up Nix Darwin on it, as well as reconfiguring my tiled and transparent windows and custom taskbar! God, I love how #nix can make anything even more awesome!!! 🙌🤘 :apple: :nixos:

My Fedora workstation is a Thinkpad P51. I forgot this laptop has 32GB of ram and i7 processor. I believe it's 8 core with an Intel and Nvidia dual graphics card. Used to run Windows and AutoCAD.
It has an Expresscard/34 slot which I have never used. I was wondering if this was even a thing in 2024? Does anyone use this port on their laptops and how is linux support?

I stopped using Linux roughly when Windows 8 came out and suddenly all desktop environments were chasing that tablet computing trend (???) instead of treating PCs as, y'know, PCs, but recently got back in with a spare Thinkpad T480 I bought off eBay for cheap.
I have to say, Zorin OS is amazing and incredible. Would recommend.
Ok so for the second time, my Thinkpad T570 touchpad just suddenly stopped working. The last time, only a reboot fixed it. This time, it intermittently accepts touches, but mangles them awfully.
The red joystick still works, as do the mouse keys.
Мне продали T480 с залитой клавиатурой. Не полностью, в районе пробела слева и возле тачпада. Похоже на кофе.
Клавиши заедали, иногда не прожимались и я решил вытащить сами кнопки, но информации по снятию клавиш особо не было. Попробовал на свой страх и риск.
Оказалось это не так уж и сложно - нужно всего лишь поддевать клавишу в верхней части. Не все клавиши таким образом отрываются, напр. стрелки вверх\вниз, клавиши G и H нужно поддевать сбоку.
Благо ноут был выпущен в 2018'ом году и пластик ещё не сильно высох, так что крепления на самих клавишах остались на месте.
После разборки, чистки и сборки, за клавиатурой теперь печатать одно удовольствие. Клава у T470 и T480 на много лучше и приятнее клавиатуры T440p, даже CapsLock индикатор есть.

I'm still under the weather (enough to get another 3 days of sick leave from the doc 🤧), but thinking of dear friends old and new (and hoping none of you are suffering in misery like me 🤪).
While I have a new friend to keep me company, I haven't mustered enough energy to play with them yet... which is so out of character for me coz usually I'd be jumping on such a new friend 😍
