"Użytkownicy #Slack-a są przerażeni, gdy odkrywają wiadomości używane do szkolenia AI. Slack w obliczu ostrej reakcji twierdzi, że zmiany polityki są nieuchronne."
Miałem ostatnio konwersację ze znajomymi odnośnie lepszego komunikatora grupowego w zespole IT. I pojawił się odwieczny problem:
Slack vs Discord
What do people get out of using #SMS#Slack or #Discord that @matrix (and apps that interface with it) doesn't provide? The decentralized web should be able to win this fight.
Also, I wonder how many people are happy with #IRC and maybe then aren't interested in (or even aware of) what's now possible. I love using #matrix for calls on my show.
For the academics out there, so you have a #slack account in your lab, and is it useful?
I've had one for years and it's been quite handy for code sharing and just general lab communication. But it might be hard for me to maintain due to policies at my University.
Hmm, seeing Slack failures on desktop on multiple work organizations, wonder if they broke something. (Update: recovered... not sure when, went to get dinner, LOL) #Slack
"To develop AI/ML models, our systems analyse Customer Data (e.g. messages, content and files) submitted to Slack as well as Other Information (including usage information) as defined in our privacy policy and in your customer agreement."
The new design #Slack has started to push out to some workspaces is absolutely atrocious. Considering how much time I spend there daily, it's a nightmare. Seems like there's no way to revert it, but I'd love it if someone proved me wrong on that.
holy fuck #Slack's API doesn't have a single unique ID for an individual messages, messages are identified by the ID of a channel, thread, or DM and a unix timestamp (as a string, in the timezone of the slack workspace (i think?)).
you have got to be joking me, this API is such a mess.
I can't remember if I asked this before, but are there any other #blind folks out there who might be able to have a chat about #slack? The new interface is doing some weird things and I'd like to compare notes, see if I'm missing something that would fix a particular issue. The issue in question is how the alt number keys are not behaving the way they were before, reading previous messages.
Oh God, all my #Slack workspaces have now been FUBARed by their new "design". It's shit, but oh well, at least it's now consistently shit, and I guess I should spend less time in that app anyway.
Now here's one thing they don't want you to know about, and Slack will hate you for this one weird trick. If you press Cmd + Shift + S, you can bring the workspaces sidebar back! It won't unfuck the rest of the design, but at least it'll fix one the worst aspects of it.
I am totally floored by the bold, drunk on LLM idea that Slack by Saleforce has right now: They want to compromise the privacy of customer data to train their implementation of an LLM.
This is beyond cursed because Salesforce has the audacity to make this scheme an opt-out instead of op-in to maximize the data accumulation.
I hope the uproar this will generate makes Slack step the hell back!
You know who will never mine your private communications to train an LLM?
Better yet, you know whose words you don't need to trust, because you aren't obligated to use any particular server? And the software is open source? And regularly audited by security researchers?
Matrix.
It's not perfect, but no tool is. It's a matter of what trade offs you're willing to accept. Just sayin' ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Got this message from #slack:
> Our records indicate that your mobile device uses a mobile OS version that Slack will stop supporting after September. For the best experience and to continue receiving regular updates [..], we strongly recommend updating your mobile OS as soon as possible.
Messaging apps like Slack are designed in a way to keep us hanging on every message, which means any deep thinking process is continuously disrupted. We’re kept constantly in a state of task switching or trying to repair our working memory. These apps also reinforce a work culture that demands immediate response at the expense of #flow.
Great piece by @alabut on digital relationships. I've been working from home since pre-pandemic too and loving it. Here Al expounds upon what tech and the web means to our generation and even older generations, as we all use it to try and improve our stuff. Awesome read.
Yesterday was Global #Accessibility Awareness Day (#GAAD). Today, some companies will be considering switching away from #Slack to a less #accessible alternative due to #AI bullshit.
