#NotOnGitHub: Tell us about your favourite #OpenSource / #FreeSoftware projects that are not available on mainstream platforms, whether on a self-hosted cgit or available as an archive download only.
@thegibson I was just checking what this tinyletter.com is. Ah, MailChimp, that explains it.
If you ever need an experienced GNU Mailman admin (or any other open source mail software), I'm your guy and I like a challenge. But I'm also pragmatic, so I get it.
Email, the OG federated application, still going strong. #selfhosting
I'm really pissed that mstdn has defederated mastodon dot art. There was no good reason for this. Some of my favorite follows were there and it seems the only reason was for criticizing admins who refused to take action against meta. Absolute bullshit.
It is unblocked now. Hopefully you have an export of your follows so you can refollow those you followed that were disconnected.
Maybe an Explore search of mastodon.art will help reestablish connections.
All the mass defederating based on tit for tat, and lists of auto defed, is why I decided to self-host early on after the Twitter Migration. I know not many can but luckily, I was able to pull of #Selfhosting
I'm Badri, a #writer and #nonfiction#editor at Snipette looking to explore and highlight the interesting aspects of our world 🔦
I also #read a lot, and am always on the lookout for interesting bits of #science, #culture, #history, or #philosophy which come out at some point or other in my articles 👀
I'm also @badrihippo, but this instance, Snipetteville, is a place for all Snipette editors to hang out. We may be talking in private, but if you see a public conversation you're most welcome to join. Feel free to tag me in deep and/or lighthearted #philosophical conversations about aspects of the world 💭
Oh and! I guess I'm (collectively) #selfhosting an instance!
For those who've seen me elsewhere in the Fedi: I'll still be there too, but will try to be more active here on Snipetteville, at least for a bit, so I can get the instance going 🚀
My @nlnetlabs#unbound#docker image has been updated to #OpenSSL 3.1.1 including my build bases which got updated to #Alpine 3.18.0. The images version reads 1.17.1-5.
I am not a tech person but I follow the deets with interest. Currently following a group about self-hosting, and just chiming in to say it works - the group thing. Because I do not want the full self-host query, I mute it in a list. When I want to see the chatter I look in. Anyhow - if you have questions about self-hosting there is a group. #selfhosting@selfhosted
I am a software engineer since 2006, currently at work I use #Scala, the Typelevel stack and functional programming, but in the past I also did Perl, PHP, JS and some Java, TypeScript, React recently.
Nowadays I really enjoy using #Rustlang in my pet projects.
I may try to setup a #Minecraft server for my brother and I too fiddle around on. That could be fun, especially since I know nothing about how to set one up!
Sweet! Swedish Social Insurance Agency1 (Försäkringskassan) have ditched Microsoft Teams and are now using Nextcloud for documents, Element for chat, and Jitsi for video calls. These services are also installed on their own servers.
It's probably just to do with my low-resource #VPS, but I don't have this problem with anything else...
In #Hedgedoc, if I paste something somewhat long, the socket connection breaks momentarily, giving me 502 Bad Gateway, then it reverts the paste when it reconnects about five seconds later. Then if I paste it again, it breaks again, but maybe actually keeps the paste (maybe one more try pastes it successfully).
In a quest to have all the #AI tools locally, self-hosted I now have a surprisingly good chat assistant!
