Recording in the basement tonight. Got the main rhythm acoustic guitar track done for the new song. A good start. Used the solid top, back and sides all mahogany Godin acoustic. Recording with a CAD GXL1200 small diaphragm 48v condenser mic. I might double track another acoustic in high-strung Nashville tuning for the chorus. Pondering where to go next with it. Got my Hohner B harp for the solo parts. No drums. I’ll use a shaker though. Sleep on it. #music#recording#songwriting#gearsquad
Behringer makes shitty stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2C7B3dnyt4
Just spend an extra £150 if you want a cheap version of the 1073 and get the Warm Audio one ffs. The AMS Neve one is 1500.
I mixed a song a couple of nights ago but didn’t get around to posting it to my alonetone or hearthis.at accounts so it just sat there on my laptop. Now it is out there for the whole wide world to ignore.
I think it kinda sounds like crap, but the song itself is okay, I think. You can probably hear the edits in the chorus because I wrote a melody without leaving any space for that pesky little breathing thing. Oops.
The lead guitar was through a nearly cranked amp. That was fun. Noisy as hell, but fun.
I would like to record some game play footage from my XBOX to my M1 MacBook Air. I don’t need a webcam (no wants to see me 😀). I will add some subtitles to it later. I don’t need to stream.
I've got a couple of good mics now after years of working hard to save the money. I've a modern pair of c414s (sadly Hungarian, not the Austrian ones). I've an Austrian Audio 818. A pair of 040 micro SDCs. Drum sets, Shure 57s etc etc..
...there is a church down the road from me (and probably many others near me) that always sounded cool. Even as an atheist its tempting to email them and ask about hiring it as a recording space, or ask if they have a choir.
These are the LEAST expensive wireless microphones I've ever tested. The price is great, but the most important part of a mic is whether it sounds good... https://somegadgetguy.com/b/44r
We're taking a listen to the Saramonic mics in my office and hooked up to my Vivo for some walk-and-talk vlogging!
Two days in a row. It is silly how sneaking in 20-30 minutes of guitar playing before work in the morning can just brighten up the whole day. Silly and a little weird, maybe.
I mentioned last night that I started working on a new song for the re-recording project thing. I put rhythm guitars on it this morning after I did my daily exercise and had a quick breakfast. Done and done. I used direct outs from two of my amps again. That’s the norm now. Oh well. It sounded pretty good today. It sounded pretty good yesterday too, I think.
Here’s the obligatory guitar pic. Let’s use it for today’s photo a day project as well. Day 243 of 365. Actually… 366, but we won’t worry about that until the end of the line.
I’ve used DT 770’s for YEARS now in my professional career, and it makes me nervous when a company says they’re going to update a classic piece of studio recording hardware. Using the new 770 Pro X for a couple weeks now, I have a LOT of thoughts.
Well, I’m now beyond frustrated with Apple. Was working with Apple Loops in Logic this morning, went to use the search feature, picked a filter and now all the loops are totally gone. I reindexed them, nothing; reinstalled & reindexed them, nothing. Deleted the preference file, rebooted, nothing. Lost all my settings when I deleted the preferences too. So looking like I need to delete anything Logic related for preferences & logs the reinstall Logic. 🤬 #apple#logic#recording#gearsquad
This recording is going along swimmingly! Just back from a break to walk the dog. I'm getting the hang of the basics of Reaper on Linux.
Once I get going, the workflow is soooo much nicer than audacity or ,dare I say, my trusty old 4-track. Certainly wouldn't have the flexibility to double mic everything and balance condenser with dynamic everywhere!
Time to start paying attention to all those free VST posts in my timeline I guess!
Another day at the office . . . I realize I don't look so cool when I'm reading a chart and trying to nail the click track . . . There’s stuff going on in my headphones that you can’t hear that made this a little more interesting than usual . . . #musicproduction#mymusic#fedijams#drums#drumming#recording#fedimusic#music
I played this record in the car 🚘 and decided to hear it in the lounge. I started in Apple Spatialize Audio but it was rubbish and switched to #qobuz#lossless via #roon. The haze cleared up. Apple compresses the main channels to make all the Dolby Atmos other stuff fit in an AirPods Pro pipe. The Maggies didn’t like it. Tubby bass.
Well my Mac Pro is back up and running. It took two days to install my plugins (the 290 Native Instruments plugins and libraries took the most time). And I’ve lost the vast majority of my Plugin Alliance and Harrison plugins due to their incompetence at integrating with their new parent companies install systems (Native Instruments and SSL respectively). Since I had older installers in both cases I was able to get the ones I use the most installed. #gearsquad#recording#plugins#Studio
Well, got my recent song mixed. Quite a challenge with several stereo tracks, 2 acoustic guitars in high and low tunings, one electric guitar, pipe organ, 3 synth tracks, drums and 2 vocal tracks. It went great. Until I decided today to completely change the instrumentation for the final chorus, which really needed to be done to fit the lyrical story context. Brought in a stereo string section and piano with the Strymon BigSky reverb on Epiphany chorale setting for those tracks. Wow, that did the trick. Fortunately, I preserved all the original mix settings and just had to do a few moderate adjustments. And I’ve listened to the song so many times, I could pick out any issues quite easily. Done. Now just need a freaky bizarre graphic for this strange song. Tomorrow. #music#recording#songwriting
