#Vivaldi is cool thanks to its Chromium base, but for some reason it cannot open #ProtonMail. When I navigate to the site it just refuses to connect. Other sites work fine.
Definitely sticking to Firefox for the time being.
Users of @protonvpn, how would you rate their service - especially as a linux user? I've heard that their Linux app is lacking. I am looking to swap over from Mullvad considering that I already pay for @protonmail and @simplelogin already. Would you recommend it?
I was personally unaware of such allegations, although reading them, I can imagine why some conspiracy theorist could think of this. But, I personally like that they don't just say this a false, but almost say: "Seriously, like if this was true then..."
@Stark9837@protonmail "...why some conspiracy theorist..."
Hello. To beginning, let's make sure we all understand why shouldn’t use this expression, because:
First of all, the theory is something that has no proof that it has no substantiated facts, and there are tweets, with all the necessary references, so it's not "theory" anymore.
Two, let's not use this term. This expression was introduced into the CIA image to discreet "inconsciousness. --> #surveillance#privacy#protonmail
I'm considering getting a #ProtonMail account and moving at least one of my domains there -- while I'm not interested in leaving Gmail, I currently have too many eggs in that basket, so having an entirely separate alternative in case things go south seems wise.
Opinions? Any unobvious plusses or minuses I might not be aware of? How well does the custom domain management work? (Especially with catch-all addresses, which is certainly what I would do.)
So I just got an email about this. As somebody who has been a paid #ProtonMail user for a few years now, and as somebody who actually asked about family plans when I first signed up, this is kinda awesome. Way more private and more storage than #Microsoft or #Google.
#ProtonMail just launched their family plan, 6 people, 3TB storage (shared), and no custom domain required (new)! Seems to be essentially the same as old Visionary, which is probably why they upped Visionary to 6TB recently... Check it out: https://proton.me/blog/proton-family-plan
@calculsoberic@louis VPN, Encrypted emailservices like #Protonmail and #Tutanota, encrypted messengers like #Threema and #Signal , alternative search engines like #searx.org and #duckduckgo. Using privacy oriented browsers like #Brave and hardened #Firefox like #LibreWolf and so on. There's a lot you can do to withold your personal data. Don't ever believe it's useless or a ran course. There are always things you can do to give away as less info as possible. Don't give in!
Holy shit, @protonmail just doubled my base storage to six terabytes for #ProtonMail, #ProtonDrive, etc. I’m only using a little over 16 GB.
Granted I’ve been a paid subscriber since the summer of 2016 (first on their Plus plan, then on Visionary starting the following year). But this is ridiculous.
It’s literally identical to the legacy Visionary plan I have aside from having 3 TB of shared storage instead of the 6 TB they just upped Visionary to.
First time I tried moving to #Thunderbird I didn't like it, it was gitchy, and I stuck with #Gmail.
In the years after, T-bird got better. #Google got worse, and T-bird became the place to be.
If (when!) the bird integrates simply with #ProtonMail, I'll be able to dump #Pichai entirely.
That’s a great example of why search is lousy in Mastodon. @bazurk posted with the hashtag #protonmail. A search for ‘protonmail’ didn’t find that post, presumably because it treats hashtags differently.
I like #Tutanota (@Tutanota) a lot, but 3 main problems: not being able to use other mail clients. Not being able to search easily in your mails. Not being able to send encrypted mails (using PGP keys for example) to people who don't have Tutanota, in my case, all my contacts.
If the last two problems were solved, there would be no need to be able to use another client, which we cannot do anyway at the moment.
I'm not happy with #Protonmail's trend towards emphasis on marketing, but at least they integrate PGP use in sending mail (though by default it's the protonmail-generated PGP key, which you have to trust PM with).
Wondering about Proton Mail
After our conversations about #Notesnook with @Leisureguy and @nbcactus I watched an interview with one of the developers and started thinking about secure email. https://proton.me/mail
I am wondering about how practical a switch it would be. We have domain emails and Gmail addresses, use Gmail interface. #ProtonMail
I see it includes a VPN but my subscription to #nordVPN lasts another year.
Has anyone done the switch who is prepared to chime in with thoughts?
@EllieK@Leisureguy
I was about to make the switch. I had purchased a couple of business accounts, and moved a domain over to check functionality.
At the last moment I realised there is no ability to sync contacts with your phone, so I'd need to runs two sets of contacts. I checked and they have no plan on when such a feature will exist.
Such a shame. So many other positives, but data duplication I can live without
