For anyone unaware, Google Chrome is currently rolling out an update that track your interests based on browsing history, then share them with 3rd party websites. The notification page makes it sound like they added a new privacy feature, but in actuality they automatically enrolled you into their tracking system and you have to go and manually opt out.
@Jakra Good question. But remember that the #car maker as data processor doesn't need to be the one who collects the data. All they need is a unique #identifier to create a profile and then "enrich" it with personal data they buy from other sources.
Combine this with constant location #surveillance, driving habits, and the analysis of conversations held inside the car and this #profiling might just be worth more than the companies make by selling cars.

@mho@mosseri so ganz glücklich bin ich damit nicht. Auf der einen Seite fördert es die Verbreitung und Vernetzung. Auf der anderen Seite möchte ich nichts mit #Meta zu tun haben. Mir stellt sich auch die Frage in der Zukunft. Wenn eine Schnittstelle besteht werden später /irgendwann auch Daten abgegriffen um sie weiter zu verarbeiten. Stichwort #Werbung#Profiling 🤔
OK so I'm ready for today's #GPGPU lesson with the new laptop. My only gripe for the lesson will be that #Rusticl in #Mesa 23.2 doesn't support #profiling information. Apparently the feature was merged at a later commit https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/24101
and I even tried upgrading to my distro's experimental 23.3-rc1 packages, but trying to use rusticl on those packages segfaults. So either I've messed up something with this mixed upgrade, or I've hit an actual bug.
Not only should you get a #browser that offers anti-tracking protection (or a tracker blocker extension), but one that cares about you and doesn’t spy on your browsing habits. In the end, blocking trackers is almost pointless if you are using a browser that collects far more details than any tracking ad ever could.
