Currently already a thing. If I go visit people, do I know that there's an #Alexa sitting somewhere in the room with its fabulous spatial #microphone tech? Silently #spying.. or not?
If I become aware, do I then mention it to my host, and ask politely to turn it off? If they aren't willing to, or maybe someone else is using it at the same time, do I then pack my stuff and leave the building like Elvis 🕺?
How will people who love #gadgets, don't fret on #privacy, perceive me?
Any recommendations for #binaural#microphone for the #iPhone? I know about Ambeo Smart, however that seems to be discontinued and I am scared it will stop working soon. #audio#askfedi
Ideally I'd like a #lavalier / lapel mic with a line-in and a lightweight #voiceRecorder with expandable SD memory, or a decent wireless lapel mic that can connect to a usb-c android phone (or voice recorder). I have a Zoom already with four xlr ports, but it's really heavy and I don't generally need something THAT heavy duty for walking-around-outside vlogs. If there's a wireless mic that's good quality then awesome, but barring that at least a line-in mic that I can stick on my shirt collar (assuming I'm not filming something topless lmao) and have it pick up decent audio outside, or even during a convention. I'm hoping to keep everything under $200 (mic plus voice recorder) or under $100 for the mic, but I can go a little higher if it's really good quality.
I've tried a variety of <$30 lavalier mics already and they all kinda suck. I'm hoping if I can find recommendations from a real live human who's actually used it, not bought-out reviews from the manufacturers themselves, I'll have better results. Would be nice to have the new mic+recorder sooner than later, but by Vidcon in June at the absolute latest. Thanks in advance!
Are there any bluetooth headsets with 'studio quality' mics so to speak?
I have a Audio-Technica BPHS1 set, I'd like a not-in-the-PC-room set of headphones for streaming that are as close to that as I can get without a crazy price
@x42 Thanks for sharing! Interesting. You know, I personally love what e.g. #rme are doing. They provide all sorts of apps for #windows and #macos, but offer the option to use their interfaces solely via the #hardware and without any drivers with a #usb#classcompliant mode too. You miss a bunch of channels that way, but I even extended my #interface with 8 additional #microphone inputs via #adat and couldn't be happier with how it performs on #linux. #linuxaudio
So much of that old-timey sound we associate with 1920s music is thanks to the unique (and limited) audio response of the carbon microphone, which was the state of the art for the time.
Here’s a recording of a modern performer singing into a 1920s carbon microphone!
AVerMedia has a new USB streaming mic w/ software effects via VibeEngine/DIRAC. https://amzn.to/45edYDl (Amazon aff.)
$200 is a lot to ask for a basic USB condenser these days. With the Elgato Wave at $99, I cannot imagine suggesting someone pay $200 for such a mic :/ #microphone#avermedia#gearhead#gear#technews#streamernews
Also, don't yank on the microphone stand to adjust it to your height. That will wear it out and eventually it won't work at all. The twisty knobs are there for a reason.
