I don't buy things very often, and almost never buy things I don't actually need, but after watching Unrest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unrest_(2022_film)) I decided I really wanted a mechanical stopwatch and on ebay there are TONS of mechanical stopwatches and I won an auction for one (with a very low bid) and they sent me it from Ukraine and now I have it and it works and I can hear it and I love it. #unrest#stopwatch#ukraine#analog#mechanical
One of the benefits of the global twitter/x outage is I finally had a good reason to stop looking at it finally. Fired up #Mastodon instead for #retrocomputing news goodness.
Thursday work day is done.
Working on AmigaOS 4 beta testing program for the upcoming A1222 system instead. Also got a new cool #Keychron#Q6 Pro #mechanical#keyboard with red switches as a Xmas present for my Mac Pro after the Mac keyboard stopped responding to inputs! I love the keyboard - feels great to type on.
» #neuroscience has become so broad & technically sophisticated that individual researchers can no longer fully understand the technical foundations of their experiments.
Well it happened. My #mechanical#keyboard died. It's with regret that I decided to call it quits and just get a Logitech K380 instead. I'm liking it so far even though it can't match the feel of mechanical switches.
The last day of #photOctober2023 and the theme is science. I've gone for a historical vibe, with this orrery (mechanical model of the solar system) from 1799.
It is, obviously, not 100% accurate in terms of our current understanding of the solar system, but it is a lovely thing and was showing cutting edge astronomical knowledge when it was made.
After almost 3 years of working mostly on my #laptop, today I plugged in my #mechanical#keyboard and #mouse for the first time in a long time, and wow did I miss them. 😅️
In the first episode of the brand new season, @claireasher chats to Dr. Sara Adela Abad Guaman from University College London about adaptable robots inspired by nature.
I'm going to have a bit of a #tech#rant (less charitable people might say #whine) here. If you just want jokes and cute bunny pictures, feel free to skip this one.
Object of my #ire this week? #Furnaces. I'm not even going to rant about their main control boards; most of that's been said better than I could say it, by others with more knowledge than I.
As you might have #guessed, the motor in my other furnace #failed last week.
I've removed it from the furnace and #tested it, and just like the first one, the motor itself checks out fine - no #electrical or #mechanical#problems at all.
The #electronics in it have failed. And only a few months after the other one. It's almost like they're #designed to #fail; otherwise, how could you make a ton of #money by #charging#monopoly prices for what is otherwise a #generic 1/2 HP motor?
In keeping with our back-to-school theme this week, here we have an 8th-grade classroom at St. Veronica's school with 40 students seated at tables or desks, each equipped with a Burroughs calculating machine as a math tool, 1955.
I'm not a huge #keyboard nerd though I have maybe 3-4. My latest purchase was about a year ago and I swear I just love this damn #Logi MX #Mechanical mini so damn much. What a stupid joy. I replaced a #keychron k3 that I just wasn’t feeling after trying a couple different switches.
