Today, I tested #Joplin because people kept arguing that you keep your #Markdown files as local copies which prevents vendor #lockin.
From what I've seen today, this is not a valid argument. The md files are named with random file names, their content is not just md, it's md + JSON for some meta-data.
From what it seems, without Joplin, you'll lose your structure and your internal and external links. This would be a desaster to migrate to a different tool like #orgmode.
Ich bin wirklich gespannt, ob und wann die große Mehrheit verstehen wird, dass man #Email aus vielen Gründen lieber nicht via #Google#Gmail oder #Microsoft#Microsoft365 erledigt.
Oder E-Mail ist bis dahin von "den Großen" komplett kaputt gemacht worden. Das kann auch noch sein. Dann ist die Abhängikeit von Konzernen einzementiert. #lockin
Der #Republik-Artikel von @adfichter zu #Xplain zeigt auf, dass
1️⃣ die Behörden sich selbst immer tiefer in Abhängigkeiten zu Xplain navigiert hatten,
2️⃣ für diesen Lock-In keine Exit-Szenarien existieren und
3️⃣ Due Diligence vernachlässigt wurde (wieso?).
Übrigens: Ein IT-Sicherheitszertifikat wie #ISO27001 oder #SoC2 sagt nichts über die tatsächliche Sicherheit aus, nur dass man viel Text dazu geschrieben hat.
@publicvoit You did the mistake ... But how - without becoming an expert - an average consumer can oversee that. I checked I can operate the bike without the app. I set it to shift the gears with the buttons. I was slightly worried about how long updates were supported, when it was replaced by a new model. I was not given a hint, it could get completely useless. I think on a certain level, laws have to be set,
@publicvoit This VanMoof debacle has definitely made me more aware of buying products that rely on a company’s servers to work instead of it being offline. I buy HomeKit stuff and it feels about 90% right to rely on that, and not on other smaller company’s servers.
So etwas war zu erwarten. Ein einmal angelegtes #threads Konto kann nur gelöscht werden indem man auch sein #instagram Konto löscht. So geht #lockin, wie aus dem Lehrbuch.
@RollingSohn@Fred_S_at meinen Instagram Account hab ich schon letztes Jahr gelöscht. Bin komplett Meta-frei und werde es auch blieben. Die Perspektive einer Federation zwischen Meta und dem Fediverse trauc ich mich aber noch nicht zu beurteilen - Chancen und Risken.
@Fred_S_at@RollingSohn definitiv. Ich lebe gut mit Signal und unter iPhone Usern mit iMessage (und damit auch SMS). Mehr brauchts nicht, kein Mehrwert bei Whatsapp.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity@voxel As soon as a company who only delivers closes source software does promote a wrong understanding of #encryption, the whole company can't be trusted any more.
No independent party is able to check anything related to the implementation. The software delivered can contain any number of #backdoors - voluntary or not.
If #security or #privacy is an issue, the software needs to be #opensource in order to be able to check its claims.
