Wow whee - just got an email from #PayPal to say that my #LastFM yearly subscription price changed from $30 to $50.
Crazy stuff. I get that inflation is a thing; but the site is entirely user contributed data - from the scrobbling of the tracks to editing data and uploading images and links in the database.
And they sell that data to other companies. And haven’t updated their website or apps in so, so, long. The whole thing is pretty much in maintenance mode.
@jonpsp@matt I have fond memories of #Lastfm, and still scrobble. However these days, I find #ListenBrainz a worthy successor, and @metabrainz is regularly adding new features
If you listen to #music and use #ListenBrainz (if you don't, you should) MastoBrainz will display the last song you listened to on your #Mastodon profile.
It's really easy to set up if you use a #Spotify account, and you'll get more statistics on the music you're listening to!
@metabrainz I noticed that the English #Wikipedia article for #ListenBrainz has been flagged for deletion. 😭 Are there any notable sources I could add as references?
Use arcane technology to find your favourite artist and explore their related artists. Watch the pretty colours. Listen to the music. Race your friends from Napalm Death to Britney Spears. Increase the web size and gasp as the artists jiggle into each other. Or simplify your life by exploring a web size of 0.
Anyone else use #mastolink ? It seems to not be working. It hasn't updated on my profile and trying to login on the website gives me an error that says "Error Creating App"

Really loving the new artist pages on #ListenBrainz, finding out which tracks are the most popular and also discovering fellow listeners. Very much reminds me of #LastFM and the community that built up around that. I know people still scrobble to the latter, though it feels it has stagnated, whilst ListenBrainz continues to evolve as @metabrainz actively adds new features.
Getting myself setup on ListenBrainz. First time scrobbling! What a weird word. Also, @evan is right - this platform (part of musicbrainz) is just ripe for ActivityPub integration.
