Swapped Last.fm for #ListenBrainz in the ol' site footer

Over the weekend I made many small improvements on my last.fm and listenbrainz track submission application, mpris-scrobbler.

It paves the way for storing queued scrobbles between application restarts. Once that's done I'll probably tag a new release.

@matt@oslo.town avatar

Wow whee - just got an email from to say that my yearly subscription price changed from $30 to $50.

Crazy stuff. I get that inflation is a thing; but the site is entirely user contributed data - from the scrobbling of the tracks to editing data and uploading images and links in the database.

And they sell that data to other companies. And haven’t updated their website or apps in so, so, long. The whole thing is pretty much in maintenance mode.

@jonpsp @matt I have fond memories of , and still scrobble. However these days, I find a worthy successor, and @metabrainz is regularly adding new features

Anybody know if there is a federated alternative to last.fm or listenbrainz? If not, sure seems like it could be a cool idea if you ask me.

is there a fediverse equivalent to lastfm

daltux,
@daltux@ayom.media avatar

@jules AFAIK it does not support ActivityPub yet, but try by @metabrainz . It is integrated to the well known MusicBrainz and, best of all, real , 😻🎶

for those who are on , or those who might have heard of it, check out this 'what we did with the last year' roundup. i've stumbled onto the artist/album pages by accident, i've embedded the album art graphic onto my own external site, and yet there's a ton here that i didn't even know about

@metabrainz loving the art creator tool! It would be handy if it could generate alt text for when I want to share it on here

Very impressive to read everything that achieved last year. Didn't know about the Art Creator, particularly love the LPs on the floor template, for example here are my most listened to albums for 2023 https://mastodon.social/@metabrainz/111999735197519468

Ah, the lead up to Google Summer of Code (GSoC). Weeks of excitement, and the promise of a bright future. And lots of time to absolutely torpedo your chances of working with MetaBrainz or your open-source organisation of choice. Here’s how.

music player has the best support for musicbrainz and listenbrainz that i've found. some stuff still wouldn't read… it turns out they were ALAC files that are only somewhat compatible with ID3v2.4. songs with multiple artists would vanish. transcoded to flac, sorted.

Now testing: New releases from all artists in your lifetime history, filtering out any with <10 listens

We’re trying to keep things alive - you can keep up with Fresh Releases, and stay tuned for genres in Music Neighbourhood (early days, but https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/LB-1509 !?) all at: https://listenbrainz.org/explore/

I had to pause my music to write this post, because anything with lyrics pulls me into the song and out of what I'm working on!

And that's something I've wanted to ask you: when you're trying to focus on work, do you put on music WITH lyrics or WITHOUT lyrics?

@thunderbird you can check my #ListenBrainz stats (courtesy of @metabrainz ).

As you can see, mostly electronic and instrumental but with some metal and punk when I'm in a coding spree and need an extra oomph.

And the last year I have listened quite a lot to L(oo)ping by #Rone and the Orchestre National de Lyon. Instrumental.

The refresh is out now! We have re-run all the statistics for YIM 2023.

This means that anyone who updated their listen links, genre tags, and so on, will now see these changes reflected in their YIM page. We have also generated new YIM’s for anyone who recently imported listens from 2023.

Find it in your Explore page:
