Apple iOS lockdown mode: sounds like how a phone should work in the first place?
It's on the news because, allegedly, no iPhone is known to have been hacked while under lockdown mode. Easy to understand why: less automagic to "help" the user, which means much reduced attack surface. I'm so glad I found a button to disable it all.
Hm. I wonder what happened to inter-app communication protocols. Yes, I know we have URLs, but not for anything useful. Yes, I know there are security issues… we always have security issues, but get emoji instead? We get circuses instead of bread…
In my experience, the Apple Human Interface Guidelines (HIG) have deteriorated in the last few years. Not only in terms of consistency but also in the way the components are presented. The HIG used to be very visual and descriptive. This is no longer the case.
App design is still a core competence for all UX and UI designers. So I created an overview of the most common iOS components for my students. Might also be interesting for this community!
The Verge tested Aptoide, the first free iPhone app store alternative
The popular alternative Android marketplace Aptoide just launched as a challenger to the Apple App Store in Europe. We’ve seen a trickle of stores launch since March when the Digital Markets Act (DMA) forced Apple to support third-party iOS app mark ...continues
Funnily enough, Microsoft only provides an Outlook.VCF file if you export passwords on iPhone into the iCloud. The VCF file was the one iCloud contact importer was capable of parsing.
When I first tried to import the basic ass CSV file into contacts via iCloud, it literally said, 'this file is trash, get me something better, peasant'. Like the god fearing dirt kneeler I am, I did. LMAO
So, Ulysses has internal links now. So, we now have what could be an accessible personal knowledge bank. Well I mean there's Org-mode but like, that's Emacs and no one wants to go anywhere near Escape Meta Alt Control Super. Obsidian is still not accessible. Neither is Logseq. I briefly tried others, like Joplan, and neither were they.
So, the crazy thing is, Ulysses is Apple only. Mac, iPhone, iPad. So, lol, just about our only choice is Mac, or Linux with Emacs. And of course most blind people use Windows. So yay. What a fucking mess.
Is there an issue with calendar appts in the latest MacOS/iOS/iPadOS not sending notifications? I have them set for 1hour before each meeting as default, but today... nothing 🤔🙁
Safari on iOS has a massive bug that randomly opens a different profile or anonymous mode on app launch. I switch to a tab in a specific profile, swipe Safari away, and when I open it again, a different tab in a different profile is opened.
This happened to me multiple times already.
Now I don’t want to open Safari at all because it opened porn while I was on a bus. About four times already.

ChatGPT is down, Kaspersky makes an attempt at a Linux Antivirus, Google workers leaking Nintendo private info, PS4 Emulator installing a crypto miner and A LOT more!
I still think the swipe down from the right third to get to control center and swipe down from the remaining ⅔ to get to notifications is a terrible UX on iOS. There is no/little affordance to their behavior.
Similarly, I cannot tell you what tapping the digital crown, side button, and swiping up and down does on the Apple Watch Ultra. I just cycle thru all of them until I get the screen I’m looking for.
I’m thrilled to finally be able to share that I have been admitted to the Apple Developer Academy program for 24/25 in Naples, Italy! 🎉 This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I couldn’t be more excited to take this next step in my journey.
I still can’t believe that I’m one of the 220 out of many other people who tried, that actually made it. Thank you to everyone who supported me along the way. 🚀
