Well, I basically only use it for heating automation, which means I have no reason to pay attention to it for the entire summer when heating is not an issue - so I go back in today to see where we're at & I'm five updates behind & have a "Critical error" on the dashboard ("Unhealthy system"), and yet everything still works 🤩
Not a single hole in the "History" charts 🤯
Don't even know if I want to run those updates... 😝
This might not seem odd to anyone else, but after experiencing the hottest summer on record it is nice that the AC is not running. Granted, it will kick on multiple times today, but it was running non-stop this summer so this is nice.
Originally for a minute I thought something was wrong because it was daytime and it wasn't running - sooo quiet in the house. This will massively reduce my electrical usage.
So here’s a surprise: The wireless water valve I forgot was Zigbee and not Z-Wave and had read was not supported by Home Assistant was picked up by the ZHA addon as a basic switch.
Unfortunately, I can’t actually configure the valve through Home Assistant. At least for now. I’ll have to see what my options are there.
But who knows, maybe I can get use out of it still.
Quick rough print to check for hole positions. Going to print a slightly heavier duty version and spray with sealant to put out in the chicken coop to monitor the doors and such with #ESPHome and #HomeAssistant
@homeassistant@homeassistant#HomeAssistant#HomeAutomation#SmartHome#LightBulb Looks like I might be going with either IKEA, INNR, or maybe Hue(as a distant third). The Hue depends on how the account creation issue shakes out, and whether or not they(or the others) have the candelabra bulbs. Trying to build a better ZigBee mesh, so I don't know if I'll look into the Nanoleaf.
Would anyone recomment an IP #camera that will work purely locally, with no cloud etc connections, available in EU (PL)? Most likely will be inside, though ones able to survive outdoors are appreciated as well. Ideally to be connected with #HomeAssistant and/or #Frigate (once I get around to setting that up 😅 ) #HomeAutomation @homeassistant@homeassistant
Definitely going to deploy @homeassistant at some point, and a well supported thermostat, after our Honeywell TCC (that came with the house) suddenly removed the functionality to adjust the schedule and fan settings from its Android app (and the iOS app never supported that). From the backend since the app was not even updated!
Would be nice to have the ability to add additional temperature sensors anyway.
Ugh. I tried to replace my #Sonoff#Zigbee dongle for a #SkyConnect one, but botched the process so I broke the Zigbee network and had to rebuild. Luckily I had a backup, so I did not have to re-pair any of my devices, but I lost all the names and locations (funny enough the automations were not affected).
Kids, today's lesson is: backup your configs before making changes. 😄
So, the #SkyConnect has been causing #Zigbee and #WiFi issues in the past two days. Some of the Zigbee devices lost connection, forcing me to re-pair. Some 2.4Ghz WiFi devices also lost connection, but restarting them didn't fix anything. Gladly #Unifi is smart enough to figure out the less busy channels, so it moved the WiFi and I didn't have to touch Zigbee. But, it's been annoying... #HomeAssistant#SmartHome#HomeAutomation
I want to replace my existing wall thermostat with something smarter but NOT connected to "the Cloud" for security reasons. The more open the #firmware the better.
My goals are to be able to deploy wireless temperature sensors in every room of the house and be able to script things from a #raspberrypi with API calls to the device. Any suggestions?
Rant - Internet / Cloud Connectivity is NOT Always Required (should not be)!!!
I had a week long Internet outage and I could not dim my light bulbs!! My wife was ready to replace the bulbs with dumb bulbs.
TLDR - rural Internet setup and I had to order a replacement wireless bridge.
When my internet was out, my #Smartthings#homeautomation#IoT system did not work. Ok, if Smarthings did not have a local hub that is (used to be) capable of talking to my wifi app (WiFi was still working). Or an interface I could log into. Ugh.
What makes this worse is I am an IoT geek. I used to do embedded and overall system design. Today I do IoT security. I know it is possible and used to work without cloud - internet connectivity . did I say Ugh!
I played a bit more with Numen (a cool voice control system, see https://numenvoice.org/). I can not only control my desktop, laptop, or linux mobile phone (#sxmo) with it, but also my house (lights, heating, media, etc) from all of these devices. Next I'll hook some mics to my raspberry pi's and control home automation from there.
All this on-device, no cloud connections, and definitely no "Hey Google", "Siri" or "Alexa"!
Ugh. My #RaspberryPi has been randomly freezing since a few days ago. After some troubleshooting I half-concluded that it might be the PoE HAT going bad. Sadly it started happening a few days after I installed #HomeAssistant and a #Zigbee dongle, on top of what it was already running, so now I'm not too sure if it's overloaded or really going bad (after 2.5 years of use). I'll keep it on a power brick until I find enough time to properly debug it. #SmartHome#HomeAutomation
