Just a heads up for people outside the UK that our first UK-wide televised debate of the general election is about to start on ITV, and it's a head to head between Sunak (Tories) & Starmer (Labour).
"Being removed as a candidate has been cruel and devastating, especially after local voters and party members have placed so much faith in me....I cannot, in all conscience, continue to contribute to a party that seems to think so little of people like me and has moved so far away from my values.”
"Keir Starmer said the net migration figure of 685,000 has ‘got to come down’"
FFS
It makes no sense, especially using those figures, which include foreign students, a huge source of national income. And we need more migrants, not fewer, to do the work that the very people who vote for fewer immigrants won't or can't do.
If he thinks he's going to attract right wing anti-immigration headbangers, they're already voting Reform.
"...#NigelFarage has announced he will run as Reform UK's candidate in Clacton, after previously saying he would not stand in July’s #GeneralElection...
"...Mr Farage also revealed he was taking over from #RichardTice as Reform's leader for the next five years..."
The fact that the Tories think the first week of #Pride is a good time to launch a Transphobic (& Homophobic, as it will impact many cis women whose gender expression is not classically feminine) policy shows exactly why #PrideIsAProtest
There seems to be something of an inconsistency between what polls are saying with regard to #UKGeneralElection2024 and what the main parties are reported to be doing. I will do my best to outline what I think may be going on. Hope someone will find it interesting.
Such a result would bear some similarity to the result of the first of the two #GeneralElections fifty years ago. That led to a #labour minority government followed by a second #GeneralElection within a few months.
After this week, the mask is off. "Labour’s leaders are sending a clear signal that once they have secured No 10, they will behave with the same power-drunk arrogance and the same disregard for democratic norms that they are showing now towards their own MPs"
Owen Jones

Evidence shows that the only way to stop Channel crossings is to offer safe routes for refugees to claim asylum in the UK. But will the next Prime Minister support safe routes?

I see the first leader’s debate in the UK is to feature only Sunak & Starmer. No other Party leaders allowed. I know the UK electoral system is designed to keep 1 of the 2 major parties in power, but voters are sadly short-changed by the media pushing this idea so blatantly.
Voters in Scotland, NI & Wales deserve better than this. #Politics#Media#GeneralElection
The UK Data Protection and Digital Information Bill 🗑️ 🥳
Getting this rights-busting legislation binned off at this late stage is not just good timing.
It's down to civil society challenging the dangerous proposals in the Bill every step of the way.
The next government is put on notice.
