The more I climb, the more I fall in love with it.

I'm not fussed about sending routes, but the balance, the biomechanics, the vertical dance... It's incredible.

Why did I not know about this?

About 2 months ago, I injured my fingers while #bouldering. It was a really stupid route where there were no good footholds when you reach the last crappy two-finger hold (I'm still mad at the route setters for that).

I skipped a week of climbing, & the next few weeks I avoided using those fingers. It was feeling better, so after a month I went back to climbing harder & re-injured the fingers (I'm still mad at myself for that).

Lol the extremely ungraceful exit as I finish a route, slip while deciding whether to downclimb, and hit the ground (well, the mat) with a loud grunt.

Holiday or not, Friday is a #bouldering day.

Happy to report that the surgery site didn't cause any issues or pain at all today 😊 Now I just need to get back into shape after the long break 👍

I tried out #bouldering today. I sucked at it. Can't wait to go again.

Wrist is better again, no issues during this morning's #bouldering session. Still working on that project I found on Tuesday, have made some minor progress there but still getting turned out of the wall. Had some fun with a ton of newly created routes in another part of the gym and once more lost some skin 😅

Despite sleeping bad tonight (nightmare woke me in the middle of the night and then I couldn't fully fall asleep again 🙄) I still got up way too early for my Tuesday #bouldering session. Twisted my ankle a bit on a route 45min in, so I didn't do the full hour this time, but still managed to surprise myself a couple of times when I was able to pull off moves I didn't think I could do 💪

The ankle is ok btw, just a bit grumpy but should be fine again by tomorrow.

Got a little homesick today so I went where I always feel at home: the boulder hall.

Oh shit, I think the floor is lava and you Tarzan on the rope across it?? It's not open yet so I dunno.

Same area, but looking up. There's a big rope hanging from the ceiling , set up so it looks like you swing across the taped off area.

I'm finally back on the #bouldering wall as of today, after my forced break of more than a month thanks to #COVID.

My fear of heights did not return, which is great news! Strength was also still surprisingly fine, and I even managed to do a 35 grip traversal route 💪

I need to build up my stamina and also the skin on my hands again, but all in all this was a good restart for me 😊

Busy morning thanks to an MRI appointment that's now taken care of and a COVID booster appointment in 30min, but I still managed to get a #bouldering session in! A bit more successful than Tuesday's, and @timothy also got to tag along 😊

Today's session helped clear my head. It wasn't as successful as I hoped, many more routes attempted than finished, but spending time puzzling over boulder problems and joking around with friends was good for me after some strong blues yesterday.

Now I hope the soreness won't be as horrible as that from the last session, it took until this morning for my muscles to no longer hurt AF 😅

First time bouldering in about 9 months due to a tendon injury. Wish me luck.

johnl,
@johnl@mastodon.social avatar

cautiously only climbed for 30 minutes, with a couple of breaks. Unfortunately I felt the same kind of tendon pain by the end of the session, though it only lasted a couple of hours. I think I need to do some more targetted exercises/stretches before going back to regular climbing :(
