Maybe its me being an old man, but I like the idea of kigo (season words) even if I hated the idea when I was being forced into rules for writing haiku. One of the features of Japan is that they go all-in on established things, and a part of this is that the kigo plants get planted everywhere, so its sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy that they are representative of the season.
