Bob Dylan lived in downtown for a time. His gigantic likeness adorns the building where he lived.

tfw you get near the end of a science fiction novel set 300 years in the future & it includes unattributed #BobDylan lyrics from "modern times" transformed into an actual folk ballad & slightly misremembered. (from kim stanley robinson's pretty wondrous "2312".)

"Padgett is an ideal interlocutor: so deeply knowledgeable that little gets by him, but not so obsessive that his questions amount to mere data points. He knows how to follow up, to get that extra detail that opens new doors. And the tales he coaxes out are often great — and many haven’t been heard before at all, a rarity in the vast world of Dylan bibliography."

#BobDylan #ShadowKingdom #Music
I'm currently enjoying Bob Dylan's recent album "Shadow Kingdom." At age 82, Dylan's voice is weathered and a little ragged, but still nuanced. And instead of penning a batch of new songs, here he re-imagines some of his classic songs from the 60's and 70s. Some may wish he had left them alone, but for me the songs, like all great songs, have been and will be reinterpreted many times. Dylan is a worthwhile interpreter of his own music. Speaking as a decades long fan, It's great to hear these songs again in their new incarnations.

@alternativenation a friend of mine introduced me to when they were still active, and it was very different to music either of us usually listened to at that time. I still really like them.

I still associate the song Wandering Star with the science fiction show Babylon 5 😄
My mind just made a connection there somehow and now I'm stuck with it.

@ren Absolutely. Portishead was the only Triphop band I listened to until relatively recently, but they have led me on to and .
What I usually listened to was classics like , , etc. Also lots and lots of and (who made me discover )

But hey, I love and too. 😁

#GreatAlbums1990s - #BobDylan - #TimeOutOfMind (1997). The folks who'd dismissed and parodied Dylan in the preceding years ate crow as this disc proved Bob could still peel off a casual masterpiece without breaking a sweat or changing form since he'd last worked miracles two decades earlier. If the Dylanaissance since then didn't always rise to such standards, there was enough sharpness in his writing to sustain an entire second career, yet to abate.

‘Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues’

Celebrating a powerful lament from #BobDylan , and 25 years since #LindaRonstadt released a stirring cover. Plus, a whole lot more because wherever there is a Bob Dylan song there are countless covers.

“Up on Housing Project Hill it's either fortune or fame
You must pick one or the other, neither of them are to be what they claim"

Does anyone have any technology that works? I am becoming despondent over the state of things. So much technological progress and yet everything seems to be broken (or must be updated, which amounts to the same thing in user experience) all the time.

Sorry.

learned that the late bob gottlieb, the famed editor who passed away this week, was responsible for #BobDylan's 1985 collected lyrics book, which meant he oversaw when dylan randomly revised & added absurd lyrics to his older songs, now the official versions reproduced on dylan's website. still one of the more baffling-to-me incidents in dylan lore, which neither bob has ever addressed, as far as i know. anyway, a sweet bob on bob anecdote: https://twitter.com/harryhew/status/1669400816266932224?s=61&t=KV-3SBJtavXKy1MKKpYifQ

Happy "Like A Rolling Stone" day. Recorded this day in 1965. With the snap of a snare drum and an out of time organ riff the musical universe shifted that day and has never recovered. Nor should it.

Don't Think Twice It's Alright

#BobDylan released 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' on this day 60 years ago.

"… It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If'n you don't know by now
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do somehow
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm a-traveling on
But don't think twice, it's all right"

Holy smokes, it has been six months or more since I have posted any listening notes to Jerry Garcia's Middle Finger. Well, I have some fresh ones up: #JerryGarciaBand April 1993 shows in SoCal. Some excursions into JGB in SoCal, the belated-birthday-boy #BobDylan original "Positively 4th Street", Jerry's relationship issues in spring '93, and more. --> http://jgmf.blogspot.com/2023/05/jgb-spring-93-socal.html

20 years ago this week, my dad & i went to florida for a family wedding in disney world, ate mad edibles together & explored epcot, then drove across the state & saw #BobDylan at sunfest. was the last time i saw dylan play guitar for more than half the night. they did "you ain't goin' nowhere" & dylan seemingly directed the chorus at a radio contest winner sitting in an easy chair in the front row. just discovered there's some video of "drifter's escape" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E_zFyi3b3A
