Ecoloki, to Birding

[Identification request] [Bird identification👇] Just a quick request for Fediverse bird fans, I photographed this bird earlier (sorry about the quality of the enlargements). I wonder if it could be a rough-legged buzzard (especially with the white tail and black bar).
For information, I'm in France and more precisely in the north of Indre (several individuals observed further south).

Tell : Protect greater sage grouse.

is a remarkable species unlike any other. This iconic species is losing its . Since 1965, the population has declined by 80%.

The plains are the only place where the greater sage lives. Losing more habitat to drilling, mining or other human activity would threaten this and its wondrous mating display.

European Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola hibernans), Danebower, Cheshire, UK, 19/05/2024 https://ebird.org/checklist/S175531477 Stonechats, like this bird, can often be obvious, sitting on the top of gorse bushes or bracken, flicking their wings, and making a call like two small stones being hit together. As such, they are very photogenic #bird #birds #birdphotography #birding #birdwatching #nature #wildlife #NaturePhotography

Sometimes you just get lucky. This little yellow warbler literally landed in front of us, and is nicely highlighted by the sun just behind and to the right.

Didn't even need to crop this photo.

Taken this morning.

Another for : while I was there a skylark flew down and lit on a stone at Scotland's Tomnaverie stone circle. I was thrilled because Shelley's To a Skylark was one of my favorite poems when I was young but we don't have them in the States. I got to see and hear them plenty during my visit.

Talking to Marie in the kitchen and we hear a strange rustling on our back patio. She opens the curtain, and is greeted by a young owl full wing spread knocking over stuff we had stacked back there. I got a couple shots through the dirty sliding door and screen. DAMN nature. You freaky!

I tried cleaning up the Owl profile pic with a little editing. Considering this was shot at dusk, through a dirty sliding door, and a filthy screen, I'm really impressed with what the OnePlus 12 telephoto camera was able to do!

Any / folks have a clear understanding of why Stellar Jay seem to pick up and mimic predator calls?

I think our Stellar Jay is making Osprey noises now? She was doing Red Tailed Hawk noises last year.

It's funny when you look back through your images folders and find a strange image totally out of context.
No idea when I took it, where I took it, or what on earth is going on 😲😄

Here's another of my favorite photos from our recent and trip. This is a Prothonotary Warbler and one of my favorite species. They are sometimes called swamp canaries because of their preference for wet habitats.
